Downtown bartender arrested in cop assault

YOUNGSTOWN

A 36-year-old bartender will be in Youngstown Municipal Court on Monday facing charges of selling alcohol to a person under 21, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Police arrested Kenneth Papini of Boardman about 1 a.m. Saturday after serving a 19-year-old police informant a beer at The Lemon Grove Caf , 122 W. Federal St., police said.

Officers tried for five minutes to get Papini to come outside with them, and when they attempted to handcuff him, the bartender pulled away and swung his elbow, hitting an officer in the mouth, reports state. The bar was so crowded that six additional officers were called for assistance during the incident, police said. Papini was taken to Mahoning County jail.

Two face charges of arson in Girard

GIRARD

Two 19-year-old men face charges of aggravated arson relating to a string of fires in the city.

Dylan Watson and Dennis Mohn, both of Girard, were arrested about 3:55 a.m. Friday, police said. Watson voluntarily came to the station at 2:36 a.m. and Mohn was brought to the station at 3:12 a.m. before both were taken into custody, reports state.

The two are accused of setting trash cans on fire at residences on Jones Court, South Market and East Liberty streets, and they also are accused of setting ablaze a garage at 131 E. Liberty St., according to reports.

By all means, Carl, let's do it! Let's tear down all of the bars downtown in response to the arrest of ONE bartender at ONE downtown bar! As a matter of fact, why stop there? Let's board up every bar in every downtown in America!

The downtown bars are heavens for the underage crowd - finally someone does something about it and AT The Lemon Grove...have you no shame Comrade Jacob? Not to worry as Stan points out, Comrade Bob will make sure the fine from the department of public safety is forgiven.

I thought this stuff only happened on South Avenue?

It's bad enough what the bars do with selling to minors but has anyone said anything about striking a police officer??? He'll probably go before a judge and get a slap on the wrist (you know, due to overcrowding in our jail) and told to be a good boy next time. His plea would be innocent because he was drunk at the time and didn't see 6 cops standing in front of him. Give us a break. Throw him in the slammer and shut his place down.

Thats a good one. Use a kid thats looks 25, give him a fake ID, then arrest the bartender when he serves him while he is busy with a house full of customers. Thats just as bad as dressing up a good lookin female cop to look like a hooker and then arrest the guy when he say's "how much babe".

Contributing to the intoxication of the underage and legal liability . . ..

http://www.studentlegalrights.org/lit...

1. 1.Furnishing alcohol to an underage person. You may serve alcohol only to persons 21 years old or older. You will be held responsible if you serve someone you know to be underage or you serve someone you should know is underage. If you fail to take precautions to prohibit access to alcohol, you may be criminally liable for furnishing alcohol to an underage person. If convicted, you face maximum penalties of 6 months in jail a $1,000 fine, or both.

What is Civil Liability?

It is when a person is held responsible for causing harm to another person or the person`s property. If held civilly liable, a person must pay for the damages caused.

How Can I Be Held Civilly Liable?

A host may be liable for damage caused by an underaged person served alcohol at a party. For example, if a host serves alcohol to an underage person who then causes a traffic accident which kills someone, the host may be liable for wrongful death damages, as well as the damage to the automobiles and other property.

SERIOUSLY??!!!!! Look at everyone here? I am new to this to comment. I AM NOT NEW TO THE DOWNTOWN YOUNGSTOWN AREA!. I may not have been there. I do know one thing. Kenny Papini is a good guy with a family working 2 jobs to make ends meet! I ADMIT THE BAR ( THE BAR ) Has some issues. I worked with Kenny. He is not shady guy. He would give you the shirt off his back to help you out. Big crowds, PUSHY BOSSY PPL(YOU that like to slam others and bitch), trying your best to please everyone and slip up and make an honest mistake doesnt equal a bashing... The bar has a bad rap. We all know that. Businesses like that you know start from the top. When thats poor its all poor. I am posting this for Kenny..... If it wasnt for the local bars and restaurants in downtown there would not be a downtown. If you want to do something right. Close it down and get someone in there that actually cares about the people.

Also to add...Everyone here is so against 1 guy. What do you really know? That's right, only what you heard. So You don't know about the security camera's the Grove has. Rolling at all times. You ever tend bar before? Probably not. Full bar. Serving people back to back as you are 3 deep. Someone comes to the bar in normal cloths and says come with me I'm a cop. Id say yeah right! Ok... Next... Not to mention they were aggressive and by all means not professional at all. The tapes show it all... Grabbing him to forcefully take him out and trying to put him in a head lock. Even customers got in on it just because they didn't look like police. So then back up was called.... So before you comment and make assumptions get some freaking facts first. Heck... Watch the freaking tape....

Lemon Grove was not the only bar hit that night... several in the area were busted during that weekend... if every bar that was ever busted for underage drinking were shut down, there would be no bars left...
