POLAND
Voters will decide an emergency operating levy for Poland schools in March that will generate $1,448,561 annually for five years.
The Mahoning County Auditor’s office has certified the millage at 3.8 mills, but the school will pay off a 0.8-mill bond issue in 2012, meaning if the March emergency levy is approved, the net effect to taxpayers is a 3-mill increase.
The annual cost of that 3-mill increase would be $105 on a house valued at $100,000.

'Vote Till Your Broke' and you to, can be the next Liberty Township and School District..
The sad thing about this ... the schools are hurting as much as the citizens, so they need to ask for more money from the citizens, but the citizens are seeing price increases everywhere, but no increases in income.
NO NO NO. SB5 just failed - good time to go back to the people and take more money.
Maybe they can rent out the multi-million dollar stadium to raise some funds. Very misleading to display banners around field suggesting public believe that "track improvements" were made without tax dollars, but NOT the stadium.
Recently realized that high school busing was a waste of money? Can those in charge see the student parking lot?
Emergency my a**. Before you spend money you supposedly don't have on things not pertaining to education, we will continue to vote NO.
If they want to compete with Mooney in football, they need that "state of the art" track. @falco, I agree, it's time for everybody to start to contribute, the gravy days are over.
They have a whole lot more cutting to do before I'd even consider any kind of levy!
Why do they call them Emergency Levies, if only to claim that it is an emergency to get it passed, to only never do away with it once the emergency passes, they just keep putting it back for renewal over and over again, remember it is no new taxes. Most of these emergencies are used for salaries and benefits anyway.
A levy that keeps on giving.
A true emergency levy would be for capital improvements and only to be used for such items, not salaries or benefits, and only for a set term and not to be renewed unless another emergency can be justified.
Vote no unless the above requirements are met.
I heard a rumor that the school board is closing Union school again. Thats a start, but pay cuts would go along way towards maybe getting a YES vote from me.
I could have predicted this - how many times do we have to say "NO"!
We know what will happen next - misinformation pamphlets will be sent home with the kids and the threats to Poland homeowners will begin again.
Remember to check your property values before you vote at mahoningcountyauditor.org . So much for the schools keeping property values UP. They can't use that scare tactic anymore.
The union hogs voted SB5 out so let the layoffs commence. VOTE NO ON ALL LEVIES.
MrDrone, you are absolutely right. I didn't used to believe this, but I have seen it too many times.
For years, the wages went up and up and up -- now they take a wage freeze and we're supposed to be impressed. Meanwhile, the kids have to print out their own homework and bring their own kleenex. It's pathetic.
UPDATE: ". . . the board approved Jeff and Tammy Sabrin to lead the Citizens Committee to Pass the School Levy. The committee will advocate for passage of an emergency operating levy that will generate $1,448,561 annually for five years."
Their Address: 4595 OLDE CHARTED TRAIL, Current market value: $271,300
New market value:$375,490
I guess they can afford this levy. Our neighborhood dropped another 20%.
Any levy money will go directly to salaries, and the majority of us know it.
Just had a run-in with an "informed" Poland resident. Didn't know how much the levy was. Didn't realize home values down in this area. Didn't know the stadium was built from a $3,000,000 loan Poland will be paying on for decades.
Yet, he told me I should vote for the levy.
These types of people are why we're in this situation.
Please make sure and vote in March.
If you caught the news last night, it was the same old, same old.
No mention of the waste of millions of dollars on the stadium.
"Poland pride"? "Keep property values up"? LOL
