GRANVILLE, Ohio — A West Virginia man faces felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized nearly a pound of cocaine valued at $36,000 during a traffic stop Thursday in Licking County.

Troopers stopped a 1992 Chevrolet Tahoe for a following too closely violation, eastbound on Interstate 70, near milepost 115, at 1:33 p.m. Criminal indicators were observed and a patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable-cause search revealed the cocaine.

Earl Powers Jr., 34, of Wheeling, W.Va., is charged with possession of cocaine, a second-degree felony.

He was placed in the Licking County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
