YOUNGSTOWN
Voting is ongoing by members of the faculty union at Youngstown State University.
The university administration presented what it termed its last, best contract offer on Wednesday.
Union members gathered at Butler North church about 3 p.m. and started voting.
Sherry Linkon, the union spokeswoman, said she does not expect to know the outcome of the vote until about 8 p.m.
She described the mood inside the building as discouraged.
Union rejection of the contract offer would result in a strike. Classes are scheduled to start Monday.

Looks like a strike, which is exactly what the admin. wanted to happen. The admin. has not acted in good faith all summer, and the faculty needs to strike!!
SB5! SB5! SB5!
once again this shows that if sb5/issue 2 were in place this would have never been an issue.
A faculty strike will give SB5, which was DOA, a big shot in the arm. Why would an educated faculty want to shoot themselves in the foot and give Kasick and his rabid anti-labor gang exactly what they want for their pro-SB5 propaganda campaign? Why possibly pull defeat out of the jaws of victory? Why not work without a contract for a few weeks?
I am absolutely furious right now. I support SB5, but I would much rather see classes start on Monday than see a strike....
If SB5 passes, which I ultimately expect it to do, then just remember those teachers out their picketing in an economy with 9.1% unemployment.
YSU: Still one of the least expensive Universities to attend and with the lowest faculty income average in the state. do we want a big community college or a well staffed university with well educated faculty who strive to give the best to and for their students? Faculty who themselves are constantly striving to improve w/ continuing to educate themselves and conduct research etc. you get what you pay for. what a mess.
They HAVE voted to strike.
They had no choice but to strike!
Grow up and get to work. I'm sick of the whining. You have a job. If you don't like it, then move on. From what I understand there are quite a few Ph.D's looking for positions. SB5 is looking better and better!!
