Poland Twp. police investigating thefts from cars

Published: Wed, August 17, 2011 @ 5:16 p.m.

POLAND — Township police continue to investigate six weekend incidents of thefts from cars.

Residents on Southwind Trail, Weathered Wood Trail, Park Place, North Carolina Place and Clingan Road reported GPS units, digital music players and gift cards missing, among other items, between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to reports.

Police Chief Brian Goodin said he believes the thefts are related and reminded residents to use common sense.

“Lock your car doors and take your valuables out of the car,” he said. Goodin said the cars were unlocked and parked in driveways.

There goes that subculture not respecting their borders again. . . .

I once had someone enter my car in my driveway when I failed to park it in the garage. They took a small container of change...about 5 bucks worth. Unfortunately, they left a Sony portable CD player on my seat. No one in the neighborhood claimed it, so I threw it away.

If the thieves had been going 26 mph during their getaway they would have been caught.

Well today's Vindy shows that the Boardman PD busted two young men at 3:15 AM Thursday. Both of the young men went to Poland High School. They were caught stealing from cars in a Boardman neighborhood that borders the Poland Woods. Perhaps the Poland crime spree is over.

One of the young men is a relative of former Mahoning County deputy sheriff, and former Poland Township patrolman, David Aey. You would think that he would know better.

@life2g...David Aey was never a Poland Township police officer so you should probably know what you are talking about before talking about people!!

Onabeach...My bad. The Vindicator's Government Watch shows he was on the Poland Township PD payroll, but I really have no idea what he did for them.

Two decades ago, I was responsible for getting David's brother Rodney terminated from his employment. He had been drinking on the job all day long and I didn't feel safe with him behind the wheel of the vehicle we were riding in. He refused to turn over the keys, so at the end of the day, I reported his consumption of alcohol to the boss. He was fired on the spot.

I sure hope he isn't the type of person to hold a grudge.

I'm sorry, you asked about the Mclurg rd biker and I didn't even mention him.

It's called McClurg Road and his name was Adam.

On the afternoon of Friday, October 12, 2007, six to eight hours before Adam was killed, there was an act of vandalism in the parking lot of a business located near Boardman Center. It was pretty obvious that this act of vandalism was revenge for an act of vandalism that happened nearly two decades earlier. The two acts of vandalism were nearly identical.

To the driver of the vehicle that struck Adam, it appeared that someone was sneaking across town in the middle of the night on his silver/blue/black Trek 1000 bicycle to get revenge for the vandalism that happened just hours earlier.
