STOUGHTON, Mass. (AP) — A Mississippi man who grew up in Massachusetts goes to great lengths for a good pizza.
About 1,400 miles.
David Schuler returned to Jackson, Miss., last weekend with 150 pies from Town Spa Pizza, a restaurant in his home town of Stoughton, just outside Boston.
It’s a tradition he started years ago when he couldn’t find a good slice in Mississippi.
He returned with 150 frozen, vacuum-sealed pies. That was a record for him. They cost $1,200.
He made the 16-state trek in 24 hours, munching on Town Spa pizzas he kept on the passenger seat.
Restaurant manager Kerry Hughes tells The Enterprise of Brockton he ships pizzas as far as California and Florida, but Schuler is his best out-of-state customer.

Now THAT'S a guy who loves his pizza?
That makes me ask - what's everybody's favorite pizza place in the Valley area? Mine used to be Gennaro's in Niles before they closed. I really, REALLY miss their roasted red pepper pizza.
Wedgwood in Atown
As a northsider, The Golden Dawn and Uptown.
Elmton.. The best! Wedgewood second
You haven't lived until you eat the pizza from Cornersburg pizza.....across from the Boardman Plaza on route 224. I would drive 1400 miles to get it.
Sunrise Inn
Hmmm, Bellaria Northside - Wedgewood of course - Cornersburg in Cornersburg All fantastic but my Number 1 is the little Italian store in cornersburg, not exactly a pizza shop but they make it like mama used to... brier hill style. NO
mozzerella just romano cheese, sauce and lottsa green peppers and a nice tasty soft crust
Wedgewood Pizza is the best.
westgate or alfredos
if I feel like driving elmton is always my choice. I never tried the pizza in the italian store in cornersburg but my daughter loves the pepperoni rolls and the bread rolls there are always fresh baked and delicious. Anyone remember petrello's pizza on powersway? That was the best ever
Wedgewood pizza sits on a rack all day after being made. Take a look in the back next time you go in there.
Isn't great to have so many great pizza places here . My kids could not wait to come home from OSU to get home town pizza. We travel all over America and the World and we have the best
avalon gardens had it's day.
I also remember as a kid going to The Oven when it was by Treasure Isle on the SS. They had good pizza then too. We lived on E. Earl then. What a different time!
Recall the "plot" of Smokey And The Bandit? Hauling beer from Texas to Georgia? The new version would involve pizza, with Anthony Traficanti as "Big Enos" Burdette, Teresa Weakley in the role Sally Field had, and Paul Gains as Sheriff Buford T. Justice. But who would play Burt Reynolds' role of The Bandit?? (btw: seeing Teresa would be worth the ticket price alone.)
AtownAugie - I recall that in way too much detail.
Sounds like many of us have the same favorites. I'm going to have to try some of these out.
If you want to try one that hasn't been mentioned here, Third Street Pizza in Niles has a cool "Chicago-style" pie that has crust on top and bottom with the filling inside, somewhat like a pizza roll but in the shape of a pizza. It's around $15 for a 16". I can polish off a 16" normal pizza by myself, but I can only comfortably have 2 pieces of that.
Lol Atown. I agree Niles, I'm going to have to check out some of the other fav's. I do agree with the one poster about Uptown on Belmont. We get that at work sometimes and it's good.
Avalon Gardens ( it seemed a little dumpy last time I was there though ), Westgate in Austintown and Elmton.
Original Belleria on East side no doubt the best I've ever had...Petrillas on Powersway brings back memories...
have to get back to chicago for a good thick crust pie.
too close to the new york slim....
The Elmton in Struthers. We moved away 23 years ago, and my son who travels for his work will call and order 3 or 4 large pizza's to bring home. Usually once every 2 weeks. First date with future wife, took her to The Elmton. Won her over!
We truly do have the BEST Pizzerias around!
