This is a joke, this child and his parents should be ashamed as should Harding. There is more to this story than many of will ever hear but this kid and his brother USED Boardman for donations for his church, selling food at games to raise money for a mission trip and more. If there is anyone that is a cheap user this is this family. Like I said there is more here but I WILL NOT RUIN a kid because his family is stupid. As for Harding you guys should be ashamed that you will take others trash just for the sake of winning games. You guys have done this before with this so called "open" enrollment with other schools and in the end it will hurt. Its high school football and any school that will put that first is not a school we should be proud of with or without state championships. As for Ms. Hammond let’s see you sell pepperoni rolls at Harding and not get held up or robbed for your church! You should be embarrassed.

I think the truth is coming out on Yappi.com as we speak. The kid AND family lack character for not notifing coaches before they made the desion and that can be verified by contacting other coaches than DeRamo. xrealtalk summed it up on Yappi. Sad though that many of the younger kids on Yappi defend him but they are missing the "character" part. He has none for a move like this and it was plain STUPID. He is just one of many at Harding and was a "so called" leader at Boardman. Additude was a problem with the kid, he was benched for a few basketball games as was his brother but DJ choose to let it go in football, seems maybe DeRamo would not. But read the Yappi part and thats a major reason I was told by the kids in comments made. Mom and Dad need to wake up and look after their kid a little. NCAA does not let this go on.

Livevalley, your right. Twitter heated up tonight with this, and a lot of it was comments echoing the sentiment of him not being missed. I'm close with several members of the football team from the past few years and they would concur with you. He could have embraced a true leadership opportunity but chose to let his self described "egomania" take over. There's a reasons teams lacking in talent but full of discipline often find the most success. Character can go a far way. The best teams that we had the past few years that made the playoffs (07 and 09) were not our most talented, but they were fueled by strong senior classes and a concept of unity.

I think he should have went last year when he threatened to go if Boardman didn't get a better quarterback. He has a very big "ego" problem and got away with so much. Personally, I am happy to see him go. I hope all the Seniors get treated the same now. As a Junior everyone catered to him like he was better than the rest of the team. Go Spartans, I hope you have a good year!

WOW!!! I think some of you need to look at Boardman...it is 2011 and there is still prejudice, politics, discrimination still going on in that township. Dayne Hammond transferring is the best move his family could have made. Boardman politics go all the way back to their little league football, basketball, and baseball...if you're not part of the coaching staff, teaching staff, administrative staff (98% white) you will not excel for whatever reasons. All the students of color are limited on what they do and where they play. They are playing in positions they will never play. Boardman is still looking for the great ----- hope and it is not going to happen even the college and professional teams have to have diversity to WIN.

I remember one game last year Chase and Dayne Hammond was apart of a major comeback for the football team when they were losing and the very next game they were limited on the passes that was thrown to them...Boardman is going to miss that 6'6 frame, especially at safety because Dayne was better defensively then offensively. Also, Dayne had offers at colleges and universities, he can verbal right now...he does not need Warren Harding for that...it is already established. You don't have to have an ego because you know you are good at something...Character...while your trying to define character for him... define it for the coaches at Boardman who play mind games with these students...how many board members, council members, well established members of the community, teachers, principals of the school children make the team because their parents are in those positions...and they can't even play the sport...we are teaching great lessons in Boardman...Yes, I think it is a slap in Boardman''s face he chose Warren Harding over Mooney or Ursuline! GO DAYNE!
