The city is going to apply for state grants for a stormwater project and some street paving.

The city will apply in September for a $206,353 grant, or 70 percent of the cost of a stormwater-management project in the Tenney Avenue, Pin Oaks and Penhale Avenue area.

It also will apply for a grant to resurface Sanderson Avenue from Sixth Street to First Street; Penhale Avenue from Sixth Street to 12th Street; Lettie Avenue from Gladstone Street to McCartney Road; and Mary Knoll Drive from Robinson Road to Jackson Street.

City administrator Jack Dill said the amount of the street-paving grant hasn’t been determined yet. He said the city should know by September or October whether it has the grants.

“It’s very competitive,” he said. He said the money would be available in July.

In the Pin Oaks subdivision, flooding is a problem because there are no storm drains, Dill said.

He said the subdivision uses retention ponds, but they overflow.

“It was fine when they first built those homes, but you keep adding more homes, more downspouts.” he said. He said storm- water floods basements, yards and streets.

He said the plan is to build a drainage channel with pipe from Tenney through Pin Oaks to State Route 616.
