Rally at YSU today to protest SB 5

Published: Mon, April 18, 2011 @ 2:04 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University students, in conjunction with community and labor-union leaders in the Mahoning Valley, plan a public rally against Senate Bill 5 and Gov. John Kasich’s proposed state budget at 5:30 p.m. today.

The event will be in Beeghly Center at YSU.

The Rally for Education and Community is designed for people concerned about education, public safety, jobs, families and children, organizers from the YSU chapter of Students for Social Justice say.

Speakers will include state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Canfield, D-33rd; state Rep. Robert Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th; plus representatives of YSU-Ohio Education Association, the Youngstown NAACP and other student and community groups.

Gary Davenport, an organizer of the rally, said tables will be set up with information on training to distribute referendum petitions to repeal SB 5.

For more information on the rally, contact Davenport at gldavenport@student.ysu.edu or call 330-518-7037.

manufactured event at its finest. they call is a 'rally for education and community' because they are cowards and liars. typical union mentality. i am sure we will see on the news that there are a few hundred people there, 90% of which will be bused in by unions from all over the state.

How do these union people get so much time off from work to attend all these rallies? Makes you wonder...

Ummm....it's at 5:30...after work for most folks. I seriously doubt anyone is taking any time off of work to attend. Find something else to whine about...this is a non-issue.

Wonder if YSU would allow the use of the Beeghly Center for rally in favor of SB 5?

I hope the organizers have to pay for the centers use.

I hope these union types don't trash Beeghly like the damage that was done to the Statehouse in Columbus. But, Betras attracts low-lifes the way flies are attracted to sh!t.

I bet the turn out will be better than any YSU sporting event. I think 100 or less showed up for the red/white game, sure that payed the bills !!!
