Area dealers see increase in sales

Mahoning Valley car dealerships saw a 53-percent increase in March new-car sales compared with sales during the same month a year ago.
Dealers sold 2,810 new vehicles last month compared with 1,833 in March 2010, according to numbers released Friday from the Auto Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
Greenwood Chevrolet tops the list with 286 new cars sold, according to the association.
Greenwood, which has locations in Austintown and Hubbard, saw an increase of about 158 percent over March 2010. The dealership sold 111 new vehicles that month.
In March 2011, Greenwood’s highest-selling vehicle was the Chevrolet Malibu with 85 models sold. It was followed by the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze with 76 models sold.
Sweeney Buick GMC in Boardman saw the highest percentage of change over March 2010. The dealership sold 137 vehicles last month, compared with 42 in March 2010, for an increase of 226 percent.
Sweeney’s highest March seller was the GMC Acadia crossover vehicle followed by the GMC Terrain. The dealership sold 36 new Acadias and 30 new Terrains last month.
Preston Auto Mall in Warren sold the least number of vehicles in March.
The dealer sold 10 new vehicles last month. The business sold nine vehicles in March 2010.
