YOUNGSTOWN — For the fourth consecutive year, the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office has received the certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from a major professional association.
The county received the award for its comprehensive annual financial report from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certificate is the association’s highest form of recognition for government accounting and financial reporting.

You cannot be serious, Sciortino can't even tell you what proportion of the pension contributions that the county and the employees pay of the 12 Million dollars sent to the PERS?
And they get an award? Am I missing something here? Or they don't want to disclose that the County coughs up almost 98% of all contributions for the county employees pensions, when it was supposed to be a 14%-10% split?
Let's not be mean about giving credit where it's due . This is a real achievement for the Valley -
especially receiving the award 4 years in a row .
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. is not controlled by the County .

There's a difference between financial management and financial accounting. Accounting is accurately reporting financial information. The employee/employer split for PERS contributions is a management issue. As long as it is reported accurately in the annual financial report, the accounting is correct.
