NEW YORK (AP) — The imam leading an effort to build an Islamic center near the World Trade Center site says he has no plans to meet with a Florida pastor who had threatened to burn copies of the Quran.
But Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf says in the statement Friday that he is open to seeing anyone “seriously committed to pursuing peace.”
The Rev. Terry Jones has created outrage in the U.S. and around the world by threatening to have his small congregation burn the Muslim holy book.
He later said he wouldn’t follow through if he was able to meet Saturday with Rauf.

It's time to take back America. Period.
I would imagine that if the mosque is built close to ground zero, someone or group will not let it stand
Obama says the muslims are nice people.Let them show it. BUILD IT SOME OTHER PLACE.
"Time to take our country back" to what exactly? Pre "Brown vs. Board of Education" where the "darkies" were kept on their side of town? Or pre 1930 when those all powerful Jews started to take over the country?Or how about pre 20th century when the overflowing Irish were kept in their slum so as not to mix their "Popism" with the regular people?
nojimbo, I think they mean we're going to give it back to the Native Americans who had their land stripped from them repeatedly throughout our nation's history
I think. I could be wrong though and they could just be a bunch of closedminded bigots.
There is another "prayer room" for the Muslims a mere 10 blocks away from the GZ mosque site. There is no need to build another one in a location that more than 3/4 of Americans find offensive and disrespectful.
What exactly makes if offensive? Disrespectful?
What about putting the equivalent of a shopping mall on the site? Isn't that offensive?
Can anyone answer these questions for me?
