COLUMBUS
The Ohio Supreme Court has accepted the resignation of Maureen A. Cronin, a former Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge, from the practice of law in Ohio.
The court said it was accepting her resignation with disciplinary action pending.
However, it said the disciplinary report had been filed under seal by the top court’s disciplinary counsel and that her case is disposed. The court did not say why the disciplinary report is under seal.
Cronin, 57, of Canfield Road, Youngstown, signed her affidavit of resignation on March 6, just 2 1/2 weeks before she entered prison on March 24 at the Federal Correctional Institution in Greenville, Ill. Cronin’s scheduled release date from prison is March 8, 2012.
The affidavit of resignation, notarized by her lawyer, J. Gerald Ingram, wasn’t filed at the top court until July 16. In the affidavit, Cronin, who retired from the bench in 2007, said she was not admitted to law practice in another jurisdiction.
U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi in Akron sentenced Cronin to prison after she pleaded guilty to two felony counts of honest services mail fraud.
In pleading guilty, Cronin admitted accepting and failing to report an $18,000, no-interest cash loan from Flora Cafaro, part owner of the Cafaro Co., which had numerous civil lawsuits before her while she was a judge.
Flora Cafaro wasn’t charged in the Cronin case, but she and Atty. Martin Yavorcik are charged with money laundering in connection with an allegedly concealed $15,000 gift Flora Cafaro gave to Yavorcik’s unsuccessful 2008 campaign for county prosecutor.

"However, it said the disciplinary report had been filed under seal by the top court’s disciplinary counsel and that her case is disposed. The court did not say why the disciplinary report is under seal."
Maybe some enterprising Vindy reporter will contact the Ohio Supreme Court and ask:
1. Why is it under seal if case is "disposed"?
2. When will it no longer be under seal?
3. To whom in your office should Vindy direct lawsuit if you plan on keeping it permanently under seal?
"However, it said the disciplinary report had been filed under seal by the top court’s disciplinary counsel and that her case is disposed. The court did not say why the disciplinary report is under seal."
The power of the Cafaro Enterprise ?
This is interesting,..
For what she did her law license should have immediately been revoked with prejudice.
Where to have been given the privilege to resign gives her leverage to petition for reinstatement
See a resignation is a willful withdrawal as opposed to being banished and there's a huge difference in how judicial record reads when she requests reinstatement.
Also for the disciplinary report to be sealed in an otherwise " disposed " case means this disposition isn't entirely " disposed " at all.
A seal on such is a procedural posture that forbade's discovery as accessible record. Which is all but always pursuant too or in conjunction with an amendable adherence of ongoing process. Which means either the judicial board on the top court in the state is all corrupt.
Or Cronin showed some actionable remorse. Per se like she's cooperated with the ongoing saga of state and fed. Mounting efforts of pursuing hard facts and obtaining material witness evidence. In regards to possibly truly coming down on the corruption by Cafaro brand.
See if I'm McNally, Sciortino, Reardon, Yavorcik or Zachariah regardless to what their Counsel's are telling them this pre-trial enlightenment wouldn't settle my nerves a bit.
See Cronin got stroked lightly and that discipline order is sealed for a damn good reason. See was Cafaro ran and J.J. Cafaro just got an unprecedented double return serve probation prize in spite of being a serial felon.
Where now with this upcoming Oakhill case and a Cafaro being front and center of the prosecutions path again. I guess we'll have to wait to see which way this pendulum is swinging.
However, the more things unfold I'm starting to foresee a Cafaro plea deal in the works. This Oakhill ordeal reeks of abominable guilt. Where as the puppet masters the Cafaro's stand an awful lot to loose here.
Where for them the money can be replaced but they damn sure don't want to do any prison time. Which to have both mega money brother and sister ensnared here.
Much like but now even more than like the Traficant, Tsagaris, Cronin or even funny money campaign money for Capri's failed launch into governance displays.
This would be a plea deal that would have to absolutely leave McNally, Sciortino, Reardon, Yavorcik and Zachariah as relinquished red handed perps for prosecution.
To have already shown precedent to have rolled on a corrupt Congressman, County commissioner and a Judge.
To hand over the mere likes of Reardon, McNally, Sciortino, Yavorcik and Zachariah is nothing. Especially after their having already failed on the attempt to hold JFS hostage.
