GREATEST GOLFER | Deadline is Wednesday; now 11 spots left

Published: Mon, September 6, 2010 @ 12:50 p.m.

By phone, by mail, by internet — you can still get into the Greatest Golfer of the Valley tourney put on by The Vindicator and Farmers National Bank.

We're taking golfer signups until Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The 3-day "Greatest" tourney is Sept. 11, 12 and 18 at Mill Creek, Trumbull Country Club and The Lake Club. It's $100 to get in, and that fee covers your golf and carts for two rounds.

Yes --- it's a great deal. (Some golfers are calling thinking there are still greens fees to pay after the $100 entry fee. There are no more fees!)

If you want more "Greatest" info or want see more of the 100+ golfers who've already grabbed a seat on the "Greatest" bus, click here.

Deadline for signup is next Wednesday. Get signed up today. Email or call Editor Todd Franko at 747-1471, ext. 1253 or email at tfranko@vindy.com.

if you're worried about work and Saturday dinners and such, tee times will start at 10 a.m. and continue through 2 p.m. or so. Play will be at Mill Creek on Saturday and Trumbull on Sunday.

When a guy's email address includes "makenbirdy," other golfers should take note.

That's Glenn Milton's email address, and he's in the hunt to be "Greatest Golfer of the Valley."

Milton is among the latest registrants as the overall "Greatest" field looks to cross the 100-golfer mark.

Milton is in the scratch division, playing out of Mill Creek Golf Course. Another recent registrant joining Milton in scratch is Price Gordon out of Flying B Golf Course.

The "regular guys" division (guys above a 12 handicap) beefed up a bit with Poland's Dennis Meli and Boardman's Rob Rule. Meli plays out of The Lake Club and Rule plays at Squaw Creek.

I agree dubfun - I should sign-up too. The only problem is that I would be dq'd on the first hole for taking to much time searching for my first drive...

May the 3 of us can attach the course together. I haven't golfed in years. I trust we would surely have a lot of laughs. I lose my golf ball all the time, but I'm good at finding others. What do you guys say?

You might as well close the entries now because nobody will be able to beat Chris Econumus. He is one of the finest players in the area and spends a lot more time golfing than he does working in his doctor's office.......

Sorry to have bumped some of the comments.

But what works as good, fun poking in the locker room or at the 19th hole can run the risk of getting out of control on a message board.

So have fun about golf in general, but please be careful about the one-liners.

There are so many good players in the area, Karzmer has to get off his ass and contact all the leagues and counry clubs to recruit these guys....80 sign ups, hell there are 80 guys in the Y league who could qualify with handicaps under 12......
to make this contest relevant there should be 200 golfers signed up!!
