The jinx is over.
The YSU football team scored its first touchdown since it started playing the "guarantee games" against BCS opponents in 2005 and led Penn State 7-3 after one quarter Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
With just over two minutes left, on third-and-10 at their own 20, Penguins quarterback Kurt Hess hit Dominique Barnes on a simple inside slant and Barnes turned it into an 80-yard touchdown. It wasthe longest pass play for the Penguins since 1999. That made it 7-3, giving the Penguins their first lead since they started playing those guarantee games.
Penn State kicker Collin Wagner made a 44-yard field with 4:07 left in the first quarter that made it 3-0.
The Penguins, in their first game under new coach Eric Wolford, have looked good so far, with the offense picking up the game's initial first down and the defense forcing a Penn State three-and-out on the Nittany Lions' first offensive series.
