Students in Youngstown Early College will move from Youngstown State University to Eastern Gateway Community College through the next three years.

The transition is outlined in a memorandum of understanding approved this week by the EGCC trustees. The transition plan, developed by a transition team with representatives of all three entities, details how the change from YSU to EGCC will occur.

The plan also must be approved by YSU trustees and the city school board.

“In 2011 — that’s this school year — the freshman class will take classes here, and the others will take classes at YSU,” said Ann Koon, EGCC spokeswoman. “In 2012, freshmen and sophomores will be here and juniors and seniors at YSU.”

In 2013, only the seniors will remain at YSU with all younger students at EGCC.

“That will finish out YSU’s involvement,” Koon said.

At the conclusion of that three-year agreement, new terms would be negotiated between EGCC and YEC to continue the arrangement, she said.

“The purpose of YEC is to link the secondary and post-secondary educational experiences and to provide a transition between secondary and post-secondary education,” the memorandum says.

YEC was a joint program launched by YSU and the city schools in 2004 to allow selected high school students to earn college credit while completing their high school education in a college-campus setting.

It includes about 200 students who take classes at Fedor Hall at YSU.

YSU trustees earlier this year decided to sever involvement with YEC, citing costs.

“Our strategic goals include increasing partnerships with high schools in the service district and to develop dual enrollment for high school students,” reads the resolution approved by EGCC trustees.

Eastern Gateway has a goal to increase the number of first-time enrollees with one semester or more of college credit earned in high school by 34 percent, including increasing programs for dual and concurrent enrollment by two high schools per county per year, the resolution says.

Scott Schulick, chairman of the trustees at YSU, said the memorandum of understanding is on the agenda of the academic and student affairs committee meeting later this month.

The city school board’s next meeting is Sept. 14.

@ BamBam

Sure it is and Y. S. Shrew is one of the worst places in existence to try to acquire an education.

Not only do the numbers reflect that but the best minds from the area. Historically has and will continue to avoid any association with such an outfit by all costs.

Merely for valuing obtaining a great education and not inclined to align with becoming a connected conduit with nor for criminality.

It's a rouse on education and an absolute check cashing money mart for the areas criminals and cronies,.. and nothing less.

Thus I'm glad the kids are getting away from such a dunce filled front. Which enhances the favor that those bright minds won't seriously contemplate attending Y.S. Shrew when they graduate high school.

Too funny. If the quality of writing of either of the above posters is any indication, YSU is much better off without these "quality" students on campus while chasing away real college students. The junior college that has affiliated with the early college is fitting and appropriate. The early college students aren't college students in any stretch so no wonder they were "dumped" by YSU. Good riddance.

@ theotherside

You clown,..

You're angered by the truth and so indicatively hilarious being unable to refute what was stated. That now we're laughing at you and your indelible ignorance.

What a way to introduce yourself trying to defend the indefensible. Where in comparison they only churn out deplorable dummies like you { we've noticed },.. ROTFFLMAO !!!

Nunya, please explain once and for all why you write such vitriolic nonsense about YSU. Were you ever an employee who was fired, or a student perhaps suspended or expelled? You claim to know so much "dirt" on the University, but you never directly address your specific issues. If you've got something important to say, then say it; otherwise, you're just wasting everyone's time with your inane rantings. As a casual observer, you appear to carry a very personal and intense chip on your shoulder.

Hear here Seagull,.. and or bird brain.

Lets get a few things straight here. I've never alleged to know so much " dirt " on that as you alleged. So you can stop falsely foisting such whenever you'd like { stop lying },.. ok?

The ilk of that incubator of improprieties has self resonated on it's own merit. Which that's beyond opinion about how it operates.

To wit it's not personal and as a non bias truth teller Y.S. Shrew certainly get's no immunity.

See I hail from the valley and never appreciated the taxpayers being lead to believe they had a University.

That's by historic record has been nothing less than a cash grab cocoon for criminality and a cash mart for their cronies.

To include I've never applied for anything at such an outfit for having set my sights far higher.

So now in taking you off your incessant infusion of implausible innuendo.

One should ask what you can possibly provide to refute the facts for which I speak about such.

Where if and or since it's apparent you can't. We'll allow the record to duly reflect that. Which allows fellow communicators to distinguish fact from fiction.

I don't embellish nor skew headlines. I clarify what they mean. Where in contrast you've subscribed to being the epitome of what Y.S. Shrew produces.

Thus to ensure your lie about wasting others time is debunked. You're so witless and worthless that beyond your conscious.

In response I've just exacted a task of having made a profound contrast example out of you As well as effortlessly shredding your hapless attempt, to fend off facts with your pulp brand of Y.S. Shrew product fiction,.. and it was easy.

Now the next time you wish to pretend to know something worthy of sharing. I'd strongly suggest that you far more sensibly. Reference me or anyone else who's far smarter than you,.. in both repeat and direct quote form.

As opposed to serving yourself up as such a sagacious simpleton that I'll not prevaricate in posture when making a punchline out of you,.. Got that?

That's not bearing a chip that's a ripping a chunk out of you being a mere Chum-Scrubbing chimp,.. LMAO !!!

Nunya, I have no clue what you're talking about, other than a few insults directed at me that I'm not quite as intelligent as you. (However, unlike you, I am capable of writing a complete, comprehensive paragraph.) Now, in English please, if you'd like to detail as to why you feel that YSU is, to quote "one of the worst places in existence to try to acquire an education'...I'd be happy to listen. Why do you feel one can't receive a quality education at YSU? Poor teaching? Lack of programs? I'd be curious, in your so-called educated mind, what you feel is lacking? Direct question: Have you ever attended YSU? Direct question: How do you account for the fact that graduates of YSU find jobs and become productive members of society? Oh, I so eagerly await your response....

@ seagull

Listen up here,..

No doubt there's some good and even a sparse number of possibly even great people that are employed and even attend that on Wick avenue.

However, the buck stops there bumbles and your alleging Y.S. Shrew grads go on to get jobs. Is alleging non Y.S. Shrew attendees or grads from better " real " education based institutions. And or even GED and or high school dropouts aren't productively in the work force or pillars in society,.. you're beyond dumb to attest such.

See you historically get Y.S. Shrew products perched as local governance in the area. For which if you'd like to find the average between the asset variety keepers. As opposed to the criminals and incompetent. You'll find that Y.S. Shrew has done the valley no favors in those misgivings in disproportionate number,.. not even close.

Thus not all that are dummies but they certainly didn't bolster their academic abilities by toiling there,..

See beyond that the even more profound contrast question for you here. Is why in the world do you think their " esteemed " grads always find a way to land those right back at the Y.S. Shrew roost?

Where if you do your alumni homework of illustrious ideologues. You'll discover a laundry list of losers that via their criminality and incompetence they can't find acceptance to be paid for anything anywhere else,.. you call that employment?

No, that's called collusion and hijacking to run a mere check mart for criminals and cronies,.. it's beyond opinion.

So now that we so vehemently disagree and yet mutually agreed. That there's a vast difference in our intellect and character content,..

I've presented my position and now one can only await for you to make your case,.. I say you won't because you CAN'T !!!
