Kasich says Ohio government is slow, sloppy and lazy

Published: Mon, October 11, 2010 @ 6:03 p.m.

The state government has to “stop being sloppy and lazy and we’ve got to be focused,” said John Kasich, the Republican gubernatorial nominee.

When asked today by The Vindicator who he specifically meant, Kasich said: “The state and the leadership of the state. The people that work in the government are too slow.”

Kasich spoke to the media after speaking at a rally at Mahoning County Republican Party headquarters in Boardman and before attending a fund-raising event for his campaign at the Warren home of businessman Sam Covelli.

Kasich criticized Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, for failing to move Ohio forward.

“Stop making excuses for why we keep failing and accept personal responsibility,” Kasich said of Strickland.

When asked what Strickland policies would be among the first to go if he’s elected next month, Kasich said, “I don’t have two hours to answer that question.”

Sloppy lazy and way too big - Thank the republicans who had absolute power in Ohio for the 16 years before Strickland took office.

All he has done since 2006 is shrink the size of the bloated republican run government.

Can't come up with anything you would change Johnny boy? Thats because you have no new ideas. All the positives you say you would do have already been accomplished by Strickland.

Wow, Lehman Brothers. Really? Are we really still on that?

Let me give you the local equivalent to Lehman Brothers, and it concerns our current Congressman in the 17th District.

Tim Ryan worked for Jim Traficant. Are we honestly supposed to believe Tim Ryan was completely ignorant of the criminal acts that were taking place--the bribery, the racketeering, the involvement with organized crime? He must be as guilty as Traficant, because he worked with him, right?

That is all I really have to say about this issue. You can point fingers all day at Kasich and his working in a Columbus office for Lehman Brothers, but here is a classic example of a similar situation that no one event wants to comment on.

What say you Dave Betras?

Chew on this Alex. While working for Lehman, Kasich sold the state pension systems toxic Lehman investments pocketing over $400,000 in commissions in 2008 alone. He refuses to release his commission earning after that (why is that John?) Then, to make matters worse, those same assets he sold to us cost the state pension systems over $400,000,000.00 in losses when Lehman went belly up. I would hardly call that equivalent of Traficant and Ryan but that's also no reason to have your head buried in the sand either. Yeah, I want that guy running the state. Not!

look at the facts otheside: Kasich had a job to do while working for Lehman, it appears to me that his job was completed with flying colors making that kind of money.
Strickland had a job also "for the State of OHIO", he raised taxes, lost OHIO jobs, did nothing to help the citizens of OHIO all of that was what he swore to do while in office.
Lets get a guy in there that knows how to do his job and do it by any means to accomplish what he is paid to do. Go KASICH, and hopefully you promote your job here in Ohio as well as you had done your prior job.

Theotherside, according to factcheck.org, that claim is completely bogus. The evidence according to the Columbus Dispatch shows that Kasich was involved in setting up meetings, but pension office representatives said Lehman got no business as a result of those meetings, and hence whatever money was invested in Lehman cannot be attributed to Kasich.

And yes, Traficant and Ryan would be a good equivalent. Kasich worked for Lehman Brothers, and Lehman got into serious trouble. Ryan worked for Traficant, and he ended up getting convicted of all sorts of felonies. Does merely working somewhere that turns out to have serious problems automatically mean the people working there have to be guilty as well?

Believe me, and I can make a pretty convincing argument either way, but the idea of Kasich being in the inner circle of this is as ridiculous as saying Tim Ryan knew of Jim Traficant's dealing with the Mob and corrupt local officials. If you ask me, I say the latter is a more believable scenario.

"His job was completed with flying colors making that kind of money". In that one line alone we have the entire Republican party philosophy --- money acquired equals excellence in performance. It doesn't matter if the money was stolen, embezzled, or in Kasich's case, gained through selling snakeoil, BS, worthless investments. Money gained, no matter how bad the job performance, is what the GOP praises.

No, "a job completed with flying colors" by Kasich would have resulted in $400,000,000 million in GAINS for his client, not losses. Any normal employee who LOST that amount of money would have been fired, not rewarded with a fortune in commissions.

What part of Kasich did not sell anything to Ohio is not being understood here? The pension office representatives said it themselves that Kasich HAD NO BEARING ON OHIO BUYING ANYTHING IN THE WAY OF INVESTMENTS. Did Ohio have investments in Lehman? Yes. Did Kasich sell them to Ohio? No.

It amazes me that Democrats will use Factcheck.org only when it is convenient and will ignore anything that is contrary to their opinions.. Please, I encourage you to

When it all comes down to nuts and bolts, what we are discussing here is whether we want to continue in our current direction. Since the current leaders in power have not turned our country and state around as promised, we have no other choice but to change leaders. The only way politicians will listen to us is if we continue to fire them until they finally learn what it is WE want and not what THEY want.

The message is clear and simple. Do the job FOR THE PEOPLE as you promised and you will keep your job. Otherwise...get out of our way...we're putting someone else in charge.

hey the government is wasteful. I guess Kasich wouldn't be endorsing John Husted then who is apparently part of the problem. Nice to know he doesn't align with the Vindy.
