Civil trial postponed involving dog's death

Published: Wed, October 6, 2010 @ 1:01 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The jury trial of a dog owner’s civil lawsuit against a former kennel owner in a high-profile case of suspected animal neglect will be postponed until the defendant’s bankruptcy case is concluded, says a Mahoning County Common Pleas Court official.

Elizabeth Raab. of Fresh Meadows, N.Y., owner of a 3-year-old male Rottweiler named Nitro, who died in October 2008, sued Steven Croley, 38, former owner of the High Caliber K-9 Kennel on Coitsville-Hubbard Road.

Croley filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Sept. 27 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Youngstown, reporting that he now lives on Orchard Hill Drive in Austintown and listing Raab as one of 28 creditors.

This guy Croley is a real piece of work, some people really know how to play the system. What a load of cr*p what is this a ploy to get out of his civil trial that we all know he would lose!!

This is just outrageous. Is there no justice in the state of Ohio for the helpless and innocent animals who were heinously abused, neglected and killed by this evil person??? The families of these dogs trusted this man to care for them and paid him to do so. Their grief and guilt over trusting this man must be immeasurable. How the state can now allow him to get away with their only recourse to punish him is incomprehensible. He can now claim that he is broke and get away with murder......literally??? Is that the way the system works in Ohio??

Ohio's animal abuse laws are a joke. Steve Croley is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to abusing, torturing, killing animals and getting away with it. Since his case, there have been so many more--Sarge shot six times; Smokey beaten and run over, Tyson kidnapped, beaten and shot, Majesty kidnapped, beaten and killed, beat cows with crowbars, stab them with pitchforks, slam calves to the concrete; starve dozens of horses. Many Many More; too many. What do they get for punishment? NOTHING--a few Days and few Months in jail. They don't even pay the costs of care for the animals they hurt. DEMAND A FELONY ANIMAL ABUSE LAW. DEMAND NITRO'S LAW NOW. IT's SITTING IN COMMITTEE and HAS FOR THE PAST 10 MONTHS.

I would have sued Animal Charity in addition to Croley. Because Agent Borosky and Animal Charity went in without a warrant, only 4 charges were made criminally instead of 19. They had time to call the media, but, no time to call the judge to get a warrant.
