YOUNGSTOWN
Police are investigating a shooting that critically wounded a Youngstown man.
The shooting happened Sunday on East Lucius Avenue near Erie Street, city police reported. Police were called to the scene at 3:30 p.m. in response to reports of gunshots, a large fight and several wrecked cars.
When they arrived, they found Kenneth Woods Jr., 22, of West Judson Street slumped over in the driver’s seat of his car, a red Saturn. There was damage to the car, the rear window was broken out, and there was an exit hole from a bullet in the windshield.
Woods had a head wound and couldn’t speak, police said. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in “very critical” condition, the police report said.
St. Elizabeth’s said late Sunday night that it would not release more information on Woods at his family’s request.
Police said they also saw a white Ford Explorer, unoccupied, facing east on the corner of East Lucius and Erie. Several windows were broken out of it, and there were numerous spent shell casings around it.
Behind Woods’ Saturn was a brown Pontiac Grand Am. It had heavy rear damage.
Police called detectives and the crime lab to the scene.
Witnesses told police numerous people were fighting at the intersection when someone opened fire. Several cars left after that, but police don’t know if those drivers were involved in the accident and the fighting or just fleeing the gunfire.
One witness told police the shooter was a man in his 20s in a silver Taurus. He was wearing a striped dress shirt, a dark coat and a furry hat.
Police said they don’t know what prompted the fighting at the intersection. Detectives have been investigating the case and should know more by today, police said.

Humm, sounds like an upstanding citizen being described here. This can't be right.
Lemme get this straight....someone noticed he was in his 20s in a silver Taurus, wearing a striped dress shirt, a dark coat and a furry hat but didn't have time to notice his ethnicity??? Perhaps we are just supposed to assume that little detail because it was a shooting at or near Lucius??? Next will be the grope police feeling up everyone that dares to go out in public. PC is STUPID.
Police will have to tread lightly on the investigation or they will be fired if any in the subculture complain . This has all the earmarks of street justice being carried out .
It just never ends,..
This is tragic and hoping the victim was innocent and recovers. With not knowing what went on between the individuals to culminate into such a melee. In speculative review whats known is it's extremely rare that fist fights between motorists occur at intersections. Barring by origin of multiple wrecked vehicles, maybe there was a fender bender that escalated into accusatory confrontation and evolved into a savage shootout.
Where from the description of multiple vehicles, people and expended rounds being involved. That speculatively sounds like a chase, ambush more than a by chance encounter or an accident that friends were either there or called to and absolute criminal chaos erupted.
Where for witnesses to state what sounds like " multiple " other vehicles fleeing. Is paramount to being investigated because at that time on a Sunday such a side street where there's no stores, church or business. That isn't a high traffic intersection. Which signifies it very likely wasn't an innocent happenstance that went awry.
Channel 27 reports that the victim was shot in the back of the head. Presumably behind the wheel, as reports state the rear window was out and one doesn't generally sustain a head wound and make it to get behind the wheel of a vehicle,.. http://www.wkbn.com/content/news/loca...
So with all those factors it sounds like PD better get busy on such a incident quick. Because it doesn't get anymore violent than that and it that sounds like more was likely going to happen right then. Where for whatever reason a number of others fled and will very likely be poised to keep the dispute going. Where given whats being reported with one being critically wounded. Those that fled will likely be looking to encounter one another again and likely when they're armed and or more lethally armed.
The extreme public safety hazard is the shooter[s] has shown it doesn't matter when or where they confront one another and it can happen anywhere and that's an extreme public endangerment. So fast acting mass apprehensions better take place. Because there's no telling when or where those individuals will encounter one another again. To include they've already displayed broad open daylight on a Sunday isn't even remotely a concern for them.
What i think is scary they dont even wait for it to get dark out before they start. They are doing it in broad daylight the criminals have lost all fear.

Your silly statements are quiet distinct. See beyond your being a bundle of bluster filled with absolute Bullskit.
Fact is there's not been a YPD cop that's gotten neither fired nor reprimanded unjustifiably,.. name one or shut up.
See more disturbingly it's known that there are some rogues on the force. That don't deserve the honor, right, privilege nor pay to pose in the capacity.
To go one better they're cohorts of corrupt prosecutors and a number of judges that's beyond suspect in how they navigate.
In a manner of limited reprieve the cops that fit the description of being unjust and criminal. It's known that they've either been turned or backed by criminals that pose in seats above them. .
That's not just speculation when if people were to weigh in on their experiences in open forum { For various reasons I'd suggest they don't }
The populous would discover just how rampant organized crime is roosting in downtown Youngstown.
I'll also say not all cops, deputies or Judges are corrupt in Youngstown. However, when you encounter the ones that isn't you'll never forget their names because they're just that rare.
Now you go right on rambling with your weak, witless and worthless rhetoric. Where be it known the affect you're seeking is so futile. That no way in Hell does nor would anybody with sense does anything but recognize your ploys and positioning.
Now you either name even " 1 " YPD Cop that was unjustifiably fired or reprimanded without cause. Or shut up you despicable drone dispenser of dummy-isms,.. with a prolific penchant for fitting a proforma profile of a pedophile. .

Ah Nunya . . .. Let you and I tour the SouthSide Hood one of these days . I know of several family groups that we can interview . Several feuds that I know of for past killings are still ongoing . If we do encounter some hostility I'll let you with your superior BS talk your way out of being popped .
Stan, I would bet that if Nunya came face to face with a member of the hood he would lose all retention immediately.
I must admit when he referred to you as rambling I couldn't help but laugh. Nunya, don't ever go away, you are too entertaining.
Nunya, to your credit, you did come up with some 5-line paragraphs. I believe that is a first for you. The train of thought is getting better. The meds must of stabilized!!!
This occured a block and a half from St. Dominic Church...Hey, Anyone remember Mike's Candy Store on Erie Street between Lucuis and Auburndale? It was later a Pizza Shop....
I always thought it was funny the Joe's Pizza (Southern Blvd. and Lucius) and the Pizza Shop on Erie and Lucius were able to financially survive.
Even as a young teen I noticed that the one on Erie had YPD as basically there only customers........
I used to deliver the Vindicator on those streets...are there still paperboys? Do they deliver in military vehicles?
Just a shame. A crying shame.
South side, guns, fighting, hospital visits and on and on. Don't they ever get tired of it. Amazing.
I agree with BELLAMY and Lifes2Short...Meanwhile why is the YPD and there "not real cop work" check points in impractical spots??? For the second time in less than 3 weeks there in the same spot right off the Indianola/Sheridan Road exit??? Why aren't they set up on or near Southern Blvd. or Erie, Rush ??? No, lets go to a less crime area of the city and stop decent people getting off from work all day...nicely done.
The cops know where the dope house are why dont the set-up check points in front of them. Its not about preventing crime its about money.
I used to reside on Lucius..It was safe until it turned into Baghdad. Face it, successful people are targets on the southside. I say nuke it. There are SOME good people around but anyone with the resources/ any sense should leave. I did! Havent heard gunfire since (knock on wood)
This kills me all these shootings who's flipping the bill for the hospitals? I pay for my health insurance but dont go until I have to. You know the law abiding citizen goes to work everyday pays their bills, take care of their families, pay for their health care which is a joke, and through our hard earn taxes we pay for these little thugs to play around on the streets and shoot each other, we feed them, they go to jail we still take care of them, they get out now they cant get jobs because of their records so welfare here we come, then they decide to have unprotected sex, now we pay for those kids where does this ride end?
