Life in prison for Auto Zone killer

Published: Mon, November 29, 2010 @ 12:39 p.m.

The 27-year-old city man convicted of killing a store clerk at the East Side Auto Zone store in 2006 will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Melvin T. Dixon, of Devon Avenue, had been found guilty in late October of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery with a gun specification in the courtroom of Judge Lou D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas court. The charges are related to the death of Edward Agee, 52, of Star Street.

Judge D’Apolito, Monday, sentenced Dixon to life without parole for the aggravated murder, 10 years in prison for the aggravated robbery, five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a gun, and three years in prison for using a gun in the crime.

The sentence came down following impassioned words from Agee’s daughter to the court.

Life in prison why? He is scum that doesn't deserve to live. He destroy a life took a father away from his family.
Why should we feed and house the animal for the rest of his life.

It cost more to execute a scum bag then house them for life. This is just more proof of how much our legal system needs reformed.

This sets a fine example ! The killers in The Hood have nothing to fear but three squares a day and free housing . Later on Melvin T. Dixon's attorney will work on setting him free when memories of his crime grow dim .

He should have been put to death .If a person is found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt then see ya. We do need to change the way that the death penalty is carried out though because it shouldn't take a decade or more to get it done.

"Texas was the state that killed an innocent man on death row and Illinois had a bunch of death row convictions overturned after it was proven that the men didn't commit the crime."

How long ago are these? With forensic and DNA and technology nowadays, 1 appeal would be sufficient.
