We’re paying for it already

We’re paying for it already

Barack Obama told everyone that his socialized health care would not cost more money. When we complained that the middle class would likely bear the financial burden of his plan, as we always do, he said “no way.”

Well, we just got our 2011 enrollment form from our medical insurance company and, guess what. The cost rose 17 percent for the same coverage we had this year. Can we send him the bill for that extra 17 percent?

When he first talked excitedly about his wonderful health care bill, my comment was “hang on to your wallet folks, the Democrats are at it again!” Can you see why?

Taking a hard line on idols

This is a response to Rev. Remus Bleahu’s Nov. 6 column, “Icons rooted in the Bible,” in which he said it is acceptable to pray to an image or statue (“...it is a window to heaven”). May God have mercy on those in leadership positions who teach “Biblical” untruths or twist the meaning of Scripture.

Idolatry, including icons which are made by men’s hands, is clearly condemned by the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is littered with texts forbidding it and it’s the 2nd Commandment, Exodus 20:4,5 “Thou shall not worship graven images.” Here are a few more paraphrases from Isaiah: Those who worship idols made by their hands will be ashamed (2:8,9) Who can compare to God? Is an idol like God? (40:12-20), Idols can’t breathe or talk or move, they are powerless (41:21-24, 28, 29) and Those who prostrate themselves before idols are blind and senseless (44:9-20).

God wants a personal relationship with each one of us where He can dwell in our minds and hearts. Praying before or to an image is not a “window to heaven” or God.

Sheri....Obama wanted a public option so you wouldn't have to stay with your current insurer. The conservatives blocked that from happening. Conservatives and teabaggers now control the House and will be scraping the health care plan and we can all go back to the good old days when insurance companies were the only ones in control of your health care.

I hope you got what you wanted and you wanted what you got.

The insurance companies are not going to lose. They will find a way to raise everyones rates. My rates are going up in January as they have in the last two years. On another note------if the Bush tax cuts are not extended, everyones pay checks are going to get alot smaller. Guess who will bear the burden----------The Middle Class.

It seems pretty simple minded not to see that the insurance company is the profiteer here. Haters gotta hate.

Until there is a public option there will be no meaningful change in Americas health care system.

Rates will continue to rise, coverages will continue to erode from plans, people with coverage will continue to be denied treatment and dropped from plans, people with preexisting conditions will be denied coverage and people will continue to go bankrupt and lose their life's work because of medical bills.

Until America has a single payer not for profit health care plan like the rest of the industrial civilized world these conditions will continue to exist and only get worse.

On the bright side, the insurance and drug companies will continue to make billions.

My company has experienced double digit percentage increases to our health insurance premiums for the past 20 years. This person is simply ignorant to believe that Obama's Health Care bill is the cause of her premium increase, especially when it has not even gone into effect.

My company just changed insurance providers and I'm paying less for the coverage and smaller co-pays. Where previously flu vaccines, pneumonia vaccines and other preventatives were not covered, they are now covered 100 percent all due to the Obama health care plan! My expensive arthritis meds are now affordable too! I love it. Thank you, Mr. President!!!!!

All that needed fixed was not fixed. They screwed with some things that didn't need touched. Why didn't he cap the amount the insurance co. can charge. Why didn't he cap the % they could increase. His plan HAS increased my cost. To keep my child on my insurance I have to pay 100% more a month. THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT.

The ignorance about health reform here is appalling. There have been significant changes as of Sept. - your kids can stay on your policy; there are affordable plans for people with pre-existing conditions - but the PROGRAM DOES NOT START UNTIL 2014. YOU said you wanted to keep your insurance - well, baby - you got it, increases and all. If you want affordable plans, get OHIO to implement the exchange so you can pick one you can afford. You got what you hollered for - now live with it. And if you have to pay to keep your kid - well, YOU asked for private plans rather than a public option. LIVE with it - it's YOUR choice. You want cheaper plans - get on board with a public option. You get what you demand and then whine. Brave new Americans. Never happy, no matter what.

My insurance rates went up only 9%. That's less of an increase than any of the last four years! Plus, they added a lot of free preventative care and my son can stay on until age 26. I am very pleased.

It seems as though Obama's health care plan is beginning to work . . . and most of it hasn't even taken effect yet!

It is a shame that the big insurance companies managed to keep the public option off the table, though. That would have made things even better. Oh well, maybe next time around.

It is nice to have a president in power who does good things.

To those of you who have seen bigger rate increases: you should probably look to your employer or your insurance carrier. They are gouging you and smiling on their way to the bank. Thy're especially happy because they know you'll blame Obama. And they invested a lot of money electing neo-con politicos who would keep rates high. Their investment is paying off. Nice going neo-cons.

Good analysis, The Quail. People must take responsibility for understanding what they asked for and what they have is because the government listened to you. For new enrollees who are in the new plans, the benefits are HUGE, but if you want your old insurance, well...live with it. You are being ripped off, but it's your choice to BE ripped off. Don't blame the White House or Congress for giving you what you said you wanted - "free market" insurance. You pay for what you demanded. It's not up to the government to protect you from yourself.

There needs to be done something done about health care while the new bill did has good points in it. But it isn't the answer but now that we have a health care bill no one will work to solve the problem where still in.
