Browns trade Quinn for a fullback, draft pick

Published: Sun, March 14, 2010 @ 6:15 p.m.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have traded quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis and a 2011 draft pick.

The teams announced the trade Sunday and said the deal is pending physicals.

Quinn’s departure comes one day after the Browns agreed to terms with free agent Jake Delhomme on a two-year contract.

Quinn went 3-9 in 12 starts for Cleveland, which drafted him in the first round of the 2007 draft.

“I appreciate everything Brady did for us last year and in his three seasons with the Cleveland Browns,” coach Eric Mangini said in a statement. “He is professional in the way he goes about doing his job and worked extremely hard at every aspect of his game. I wish him the best of success in Denver.”

Quinn won Cleveland’s starting job last season, but was benched after 2 1/2 games for Derek Anderson. Quinn eventually got his job back when Anderson struggled but the former Notre Dame star was hindered by inaccuracy and never developed into the player the Browns had hoped.

His days in Cleveland appeared numbered when new president Mike Holmgren failed to endorse Quinn as the Browns’ future starter. Last week, the Browns acquired backup Seneca Wallace in a trade with Seattle, released Anderson and hosted Delhomme, recently cut by Carolina.

The Broncos reportedly pursued Quinn last season when they were trying to replace Jay Cutler.

Story appears in Monday’s edition.

Hey Penguin Bird,

I remember you shooting off your mouth about how Pittsburgh was going to beat the Browns in Cleveland. How did that work out for you? If your beloved Steelers would have won that game, they would have been in the playoffs. One last thing, if your QB can't control himself with the ladies, you may be looking for another QB sooner than you think.

If Big Ben couldn't get the job done in the game at Cleveland last year, Charlie would never get it done.

I don't like the idea of trading Brady Quinn. I think it will be Denvers gain.

Penguin Bird,

All your posts are the same no matter what the topic is. Quinn isn't the answer....whoever scouted him should have known he had a weak arm. They need to draft a QB with an arm and let Delhomme mentor him. As for you, have fun posting today....I've got to go to work. I don't have the luxury of still living with my parents.

Well, I know who I am picking for my darkhorse team this year. Everytime Cleveland trades someone away their career magically improves.

I don't really agree with trading him or trading Wimbley. Quinn never really got the opportunity.

As for the Steelers fans posting on this thread about how much of a joke the Browns are, etc, if they're so much of a joke, and hate them that much, stop posting on articles about them. Their was ZERO mention of anything Steelers in the article. Yet, frustrated by the fact that the "Clowns" knocked your Rapistberger led Squealers out of the playoffs, you felt the best way to cope was to come onto a thread about a Browns trade that really has nothing to do with your team, and gloat about the fact that your team has won superbowls. Seriously, get a life. And no Browns fan cares that your team has won Superbowls, in the past, they only care about who won the most recent matchup between the two teams. And you know who that was, don't ya?

Draft picks! Trading away players from a basement dwelling team is like finding gold in the Mahoning River. This new management team is stocking up on draft picks so they can build a real team this time. I hope Holmgren is not done yet and I think this time this leadership will put the pressure on the other teams in our division. He sure is scaring the pants off all those Steelers fans, isn't he?

PenquinBird is OBSESSED with Cleveland (& Traficant). I think he secretly has a crush on Traficant & loves the Browns but his parents told him it was "wrong" to do either when he was just a young bird so this is how he acts out about it. He is the 1st person to post on ANYTHING Browns/Traficant related.

As a fan of neither Cleveland nor Pittsburgh, i'm starting to think almost all Steelers fans are obsessed with Brown's fans. Why do they post more on Brown's articles then their own team's?

I also love the fact that many Steelers fans brag everytime they beat the Browns but just can't beleive that the Browns fans brag about beating the Steelers last year?? sure, it was one time in the past forever, but they deserve to eb able to brag. It doesn't look like the Steeler's fans will allow ANY bragging until the Browns match the Steeler's successes.

The Steelers are a GREAT team, one that all other teams should model themselves after but their fans need to get get their heads out of their you know whats and stop embarrasing their team with remarks such as fans like PenquinBird make....

Penguin Bird,

Real nice response regarding my wife and kids. You are either a 4th grader or are borderline retarded. Which is it? You seem to have lots of time on a workday. Why don't you go out and find a job or are you sitting home on welfare and food stamps?

At least you answered my question: You are borderline retarded. You must have a really fine job to be eating at McDonald's. I haven't set foot in one in 10 years. I've never been in a ladies room at McDonald's. Was it clean? Office job.........maybe making phone calls at a telemarketer for $7 an hour. Got to go work. Have fun posting all day....don't forget your food stamp card on the way to the grocery.
