Donations in Diocese of Youngstown for Haiti exceeds $350,000

Published: Thu, March 11, 2010 @ 8:33 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Diocese of Youngstown reported that as of March 1, churches and area residents have contributed more than $350,000 to be used for short-term relief and long-term development in Haiti.

Brian R. Corbin, diocesan director of Catholic Relief Services, said $314,619 has been sent to Catholic Relief Services, the official overseas relief and development agency of the United States Catholic Bishops.

“This money will be used to assist Catholic Relief Services in its ongoing work with Caritas Haiti to provide short-term shelter, food relief and health care. Much more work still needs to be done to find housing solutions before the hurricane season begins,” he said.

“Plans are being made for long-term reconstruction projects to help rebuild communities. We want to thank all those who have donated for their incredible generosity,” Corbin said.
