Better to get Elton John songs on line than in line, official says

Published: Wed, March 10, 2010 @ 3:45 p.m.

While Elton John sings about “still standing,” you’re making a big mistake to do the same outside the Covelli Centre when tickets for his concert there go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, arena officials say.

In the age of buying tickets online, you can be among the first to be at the center’s box office and still not get tickets for the concert, said Bridget Wolsonovich, its director of marketing.

“The first person in line at the box office is competing with everyone with a computer logging in at 10 a.m. to get tickets,” she said. “Your chances of getting tickets are better online than in line.”

Those at the box office save the Ticketmaster fee, which could be about $8 to $10 a ticket. But that’s assuming you can get a ticket at the center’s box office.

Despite urging people to buy tickets for the May 1 concert at ticketmaster.com, Wolsonovich said, “I bet I have people camping out Thursday night.”

Does anyone really care about this washed-up old queen--or the washed-up white elephant Covelli Centre for that matter? They'll be lucky to sell 500 tickets.

Are you serious? This will be sold out real quick. Funny how he has sold out crowds all over the World and you think he's washed up. You should get up to date on the music scene. It's good for Youngstown, it's good for the Covelli Centre and it's all good overall. Whether you like him or not, can't you at least be somewhat happy that he's coming to Youngstown. People, geez. Get a Life.

That concert will sell out in 10 minutes. He's a great performer.

There were none online either. It seems they presold them all to brokers. There wasn't even a line on ticketmaster like there is for Buffett. Buffett sells out in ten, but you wait in an online line. If you get in right at 10 and can usually get tickets. Here, no line no tickets, but every ticket company out there has them priced at $200.00 plus already. If anyone out there found tickets on ticketmaster, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks Covelli Center!

Thalia, I was at my computer at 10. I got in (after much uploading and refreshing...so I know I got in right away) and everything was gone. How does a show sell out at 10 am when tickets aren't supposed to go on sale til 10 am? I've never had a problem getting tickets to Springsteen, Rolling Stones...or any group at Covelli. This really stinks...I myself would like to know if any local folks got tickets.

That's interesting: a show sold out in 10 minutes exactly as "aware" wrote in his comment above. You were truly AWARE!
Too bad nobody who connected at 10 was able to get tickets for real.
Is a show "sold out" when tickets are bought from brokers then?
