Foundation grants eight scholarships

The Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Scholarship Foundation sponsored an annual celebrity dinner and auction at 5:30 p.m. June 21 at Leo’s Ristorant to raise funds for scholarships.

On May 20 Denise DeBartolo York and John York awarded eight scholarships, totaling $48,000, in memory of her father.

Recipients were the following high school students: Kaylie Hebebrand of Austintown Fitch, Joshua Jones of Southern Local, Meghan Kubic of Canfield, Kashmere Pearson of Brookfield, Peter Rassega of Mineral Ridge, Ashley Rondini of Maplewood, Jordan Beth Smith of Maplewood, and Genevieve Wideman of Austintown Fitch.

Scholarships are based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement. The foundation has awarded more than $450,000 in scholarships during the past 13 years.
