The people and companies indicted and the charges against them in the Oakhill Renaissance Place investigation. If convicted, the maximum penalty for a second-degree felony is 8 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine; 5 years in prison and/or $10,000 fine for a third-degree felony; and 6 months in jail and/or $1,000 fine for a first-degree misdemeanor.

Anthony M. Cafaro Sr.: two counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felonies); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felonies); three counts of perjury (third-degree felonies); four counts of bribery (third-degree felonies); and three counts of money laundering (third-degree felonies).

Flora Cafaro: money laundering, a third-degree felony.

Attorney Martin Yavorcik: money laundering, a third-degree felony.

Mahoning County Commissioner John A. McNally IV: engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); three counts of perjury (third-degree felony); bribery (third-degree felony); disclosure of confidential information (first-degree misdemeanor); two counts of conflict of interest (first-degree misdemeanor); and soliciting or accepting improper compensation (first-degree misdemeanor).

Former County Treasurer John Reardon: engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); two counts of perjury (third-degree felony); bribery (third-degree felony); two counts of conflict of interest (first-degree misdemeanor); and filing false financial disclosure statement with the Ohio Ethics Commission (first-degree misdemeanor).

County Auditor Michael V. Sciortino: engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); two counts of perjury (third-degree felony); bribery (third-degree felony); two counts of conflict of interest (first-degree misdemeanors); filing false financial disclosure statement with the Ohio Ethics Commission (first-degree misdemeanor); and soliciting or accepting improper compensation (first-degree misdemeanor).

John Zachariah, former county Jobs and Family Services director: engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); three counts of perjury (third-degree felony); bribery (third-degree felony); and tampering with records (third-degree felony)

The Cafaro Company: two counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); four counts of bribery (third-degree felony); and three counts of money laundering (third-degree felony).

Ohio Valley Mall Co.: two counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); and four counts of bribery (third-degree felony).

The Marion Plaza: two counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony); two counts of conspiracy (third-degree felony); and four counts of bribery (third-degree felony).

Seems like some pretty vague and excessively punative charges over a simple difference of opinion as to whether tax payers' money should be spent to buy a building. Isn't it the duty of public officials to try to prevent the waste of taxpayers' money?
