McDonald schools seek levy, hire superintendent

Published: Mon, July 12, 2010 @ 10:03 p.m.

The McDonald Board of Education asked the Trumbull County auditor Monday to certify the millage for a five-year emergency levy of 13.5 mills, which is expected to generate $715,000 a year.

Also, the board hired Ronald “Barry” Morrison of Pymatuning Lake, Pa. as new part-time superintendent of schools under a one-year contract from Aug. 1 to July 31,2011. He will be paid a rate of $345 a day and will work 80 days in the normal 180 day school year.

The board acted on the emergency levy as it prepares to place the issue on the Nov. 2 ballot, to help the district recover as quickly as possible from a $2.01 million deficit discovered in fiscal year 2010. The district was placed in state fiscal emergency in October 2009.

Just vote NO after all Governor Stricknine said he fixed the school funding issue last year by pushing all the school funding on the backs of the property owners and giving the failing school systems like Youngstown extra $$$$ to waste. Some fix!!!

It's amazing that Wasser had a job lined up in Pymatuning before he resigned and now the new superintendent is from there. I hope this wasn't one of the usual McDonald behind closed door deals again.

Lets see...$345 per day for 80 days.
So that's $27,600 if my trusty calculator is right. What's the median income in this valley? I thought it was somewhere between $25,000 and $30,000 per year.

Not bad. Less than a 1/4 of a year's work for about the median income in the valley.

Ain't that something?

Yes the levy is a joke, It won't pass unless the the current board members resign. Why should the people pass this levy? To "save the school"? McDonald has always passed levies, and they still messed up and got us into this mess. I don't trust any one of them.

13.5 mill levy are you kidding me?? for a School with such a small student body???? So they can take that money and do the same thing with it? I for one cannot afford higher taxes even with 2 incomes. And what about the elderly on fixed incomes?? With the condition this country is in right now McDonald is gonna be a ghost town, if you try to tax us anymore, because WE CAN'T AFFORD HIGHER TAXES for the School Board to blow!!! Why not merge with Weathersfield? Admit it School Board you screwed up and now you want us the tax payers to bail you out NO WAY!!! I AM VOTEING NO!! Oh and don't put the kids up to trying to get this levy passed they have no clue as to what is going on or how bad of shape the country is in right now. 13.5 mill levy what a JOKE!!!
