BOARDMAN — The recession is over but restoring the jobs that were lost will take time, an economist said.
The nation’s number of jobs won’t return to pre-recession levels until December 2012, predicted Ned Hill, dean of the college of urban affairs at Cleveland State University.
“The recession ended sometime between June and August of this past summer. It just doesn’t feel like it,” Hill said this morning at the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s economic forecast breakfast at Mr. Anthony’s.

I believe that to get good paying jobs in this country, new technologies will have to be developed and brand new industries will have to start producing goods. Then the damn politicians will give them away again!
henry....You don't have to worry about losing the new technology jobs. Right now China is the leader in developing and manufacturing in the clean energy industry. Just read the post on the Vindy, watch Fox Noise or listen to the Republicans in congress oppose clean energy technology.
America lags behind in the world in areas of manufacturing, energy, education, health care, child mortality and on and on. The Reason. The people I mentioned seem to want it that way. Progress is kryptonite to these people.
"Ned Hill pimping the DemoCROOKs 2012 ticket already."
Hmmm.. who had the worst jobs creation record since Herbert Hoover, oh yeah, it was George Bush!
You guys are right. We need another eight years of war, tax cuts, economic collapse, and zero job growth.
USA1,
America actually has the 2nd worst infant mortality rate among industrialized democracies.

Where do you get that I'm a felon? I don't even have any children. I'm not even black. Why do you bring up nonsense instead of just admiting that you lied about America's child mortality rate?
No I am pretty sure that Barrack Hussein Obama has far surpassed Georgie Bush on this statistic matter. Just look at his year in office and the month after month job loss numbers.
Uhhh. Obama has been in office for one year. George Bush was in office for eight years. You are comparing apples and oranges.
Who created the conditions for this recession? Obama? The last time I checked the economy collapsed under George Bush, who largely did nothing response.
And if you have a problem with spending, why didn't you a problem with Bush who pushed the deficit to new highs. He also started a trillion dollar war that was based on total bull crap. What ever happened to those WMDs?
So don't give me your Republican crap when you had eight totally unproductive years in office. I'm no Obama fan, but you conservatives screwed the pooch before he ever set foot in office.
Does America have a higher mortality rate then Nigeria, Kenya, haiti, Zimbawee or Great Britain? Come on, wake up, you can't be that stupid.
Read the article moron. It says the second worst among INDUSTRIALIZED DEMOCRACIES!!!
I've never been to jail kiddo. Unlike tea-party-hero Jim Traficant. Nothing will get accomplished with those clowns either.
USEless1....."America lead the world in health care."
If you click the link below the World Health Organization says...liar liar pants on fire. America is #37. Just below Costa Rica and just above Slovenia.
http://www.photius.com/rankings/healt...
Nancy Pelosi leading the pack of DEMOCRAPS would not allow expanded domestic drilling for oil and we were socked with $4.00 plus per gallon of gas that put the screws to us . We need to keep these dimwits around so life will continue to be a challenge .
The WHO rankings...another lib tool of deception.....not unlike "man-made global warming."
Philip Musgrove, the EDITOR-IN-CHIEF (Yes, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF) of the WHO report that accompanied the rankings, calls the figures that resulted from this step "so many made-up numbers," and the result a "nonsense ranking." Dr. Musgrove, an economist who is now deputy editor of the journal Health Affairs, says he was hired to edit the report's text but didn't fully understand the methodology until after the report was released. After he left the WHO, he wrote an article in 2003 for the medical journal Lancet criticizing the rankings as "meaningless."
The Who rankings use parameters like "financial fairness". Most countries compile data very differently, and much fraud is involved to improve their rankings.
Have you been to Costa Rica, and can say with a straight face their health care is better?

I have friends that live in Costa Rica and they love the health care. And it's universal and free. A lot of Americans have moved there. I plan to visit sometime in the next year.
Cambridge,
You gotta go there at all costs. It's a mind-blowing adventure, and one of my favorite places anywhere. One morning we awoke to Howler monkeys howling just outside our window, and soon afterward capuchin monkeys came by.
I have nothing but heaping praise for Costa Rica, except I'd rather have my medical care here.
Thanks for the input. I have one friend that moved there and owns a hotel. He has been there about eight years now. I have two other friends that are building new homes there now.
Cambridge,
Be warned that visiting Costa Rica will ruin any future trip you'll take. Probably you'lll end up becoming neighbors with your buddies there. If you want any suggestions from me of any of the KA places to see or stay, let me know. We did alot of research before we went, and it was worth it.
Nonsocialist....Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. My one friend that is starting to build goes down every couple of months and is always trying to drag me down there but I'm remodeling my house right now. I need to just let the house go and take the trip. Real estate prices there in the upscale gated communities are as much as the SF area.
As far as moving there, not me. I'm a city boy, all that relaxation would make me crazy. I've been to Hawaii four times and resort areas in Mexico four times and after a week I'm ready to go home. I'd like to live in Paris a while and i can't even explain why. There's just something about that city, but the SF Bay Area will always be my home.
Cambridge,
It's my way of thinking that travel is best done the younger you are. The things my wife and I like to do (windsurfing, hiking..) will be more difficult to do as we age. We sure could use our travel funds elsewhere, but sometimes you gotta say, "- - -".
Costa Rica wouldn't neccesarily be relaxing, there are so many adventures there to choose from. We were there for 2 weeks last Spring, and needed way more time to see what we wanted to. I say let your friend take you to Costa Rica, and then later on have a blowout in Paris. Take a gulp and then gargle from the cup of life.
USEless1....You keep calling me a socialist and yourself a capitalist. That's pretty funny since I have more capital than you'll ever have and your the one with his hand out cashing the government check every month not me.
As far as the count on the tea baggers in DC, you kept saying 2.1 million and I just pointed out that the people that put it on, Fox Noise said 10's of thousands, which I believe means less than 100,000. Maybe it seemed like more because all you tea baggers are so fat you just take up more room. Anyway you can click on the link below and watch a video of it. From the rederick it seems as though you all drink the same Kool Aid because they keep repeating the same mindless dribble you keep repeating over and over and over.
Thanks for not being afraid to embarrass yourself day after day. I never get tired of laughing at you.

USEless1....Read the Fox News report in the link below and tell me how many tea baggers Fox News says was at THEIR tea party. I'm not going to say how many tea baggers Fox News claims were at THEIR party on Sept.12, I'm going to let you click on the link below and I'm going to let you tell all of us what it says. I'm waiting.

Useless1....There is a link in post 38 that is the story Fox News reported on THEIR Sept.12 Tea Party. How many tea baggers did Fox News say were there? I'm waiting.
Here is a recession-buster. Why not have Job Postings for the following Job Descriptions in the City of Youngstown, Crime Fighter I
Crime Fighter II
and Super-Crime Fighter
They could potentially hire 100 of them and pay for it through the Federal Government.
USEless1.....You keep lying about how many tea baggers were in DC on Sept.12 so in post 40 I asked you to read the link in post 38 and tell everyone how many tea baggers Fox News reported were at their tea bag party that day.
Since I know you have trouble with numbers I'll post the link again. So here it is. Just click on it and tell me that tea bagger count again. I'm still waiting.

USEless1.....Still waiting!
