Howland man pleads innocent to selling heroin

Published: Thu, January 14, 2010 @ 12:03 a.m.

staff report

HOWLAND — Kenneth D. Thomas, 31, of 2740 Orchard St., arrested Tuesday in the sale of heroin, has pleaded innocent to aggravated drug trafficking.

Thomas is being held in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

The Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force and Howland police conducted a raid on Thomas’ house after investigating heroin distribution to various parts of Trumbull County from the house for a month, a TAG news release says.

Thomas was arrested at the home, where police also found a woman and indications that a child had been living there. Trumbull County Children Services was notified to check on the child.

Officers found dog feces throughout the home and a broken septic line in the basement with sewage on the floor.

The home is one of many rental homes throughout the county where drug sales are being conducted — a problem TAG is trying to address, TAG said.

Thomas returns to Warren Municipal Court at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 21 for a preliminary hearing.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.

Some doctors can now treat painkiller and heroin addiction in the privacy of their office with a monthly prescription of buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex). Bupe is abuse resistant and has a ceiling to its effects making accidental fatal overdoses unlikely. It also blocks other opioids for days, and is not euphoric to people tolerant to opioids. It has enough opioid effect to stop cravings and withdrawal allowing the patient and their family to make the necessary changes that will translate to sustained addiction remission.

TreatmentMatch.org is a free service from the non-profit organization - National Alliance of Advocates for Buprenorphine Treatment (NAABT.org) it is a confidential way to find doctors certified to treat opioid addiction in their office.

This fellow was using and selling heroin . You can't force treatment upon him unless he is locked up . As soon as he raises bail he will be out .
