2 Pa. students disciplined for racial taunts

Published: Wed, January 13, 2010 @ 9:57 a.m.

ROARING SPRING, Pa. (AP) — Two central Pennsylvania high school students have been disciplined for wearing black body paint to taunt a black wrestler from an opposing school.

Officials with Central High School in the Spring Cove School District have not identified the students or said how they were disciplined.

The incident took place during a wrestling match Jan. 5 against rival Tyrone Area High School, which has at least one black wrestler. A Tyrone fan complained and the students were told to remove the paint or leave, and they chose to remove the paint.

Spring Cove Superintendent Rodney Green says school officials apologized to the Tyrone district.

Central High School is in Roaring Spring, about 85 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Really? In this day and age, high school students somehow think this is okay? Unless there is more to the story and this is blown out of proportion, I am truly afraid for the future of this country!

I would bet that these fellows are not scholastic achievers .

If the reverse were true, i.e. two black guys wearing white paint to taunt a white wrestler, nothing would have happened to the students and this would not be news.

@redstategirl: You are very correct. I was thinking the same thing, but was more amazed that ANYBODY would do this anymore.

The obvious double standards should not be lost on anyone.

This kind of activity goes on with both races . Showing your racial superiority is where you maintain a job, raise a family and provide a home for them . But hey ! Both races have many of their members that do this . Neither side has a monopoly on bigotry nor in respecting other races .

let me just say that i myslef attended this wrestling match and my daughter is a cheerleader for the accused school in question,, these two boys sat 5 seat or so down from us in the bleachers and never said 1 cross word nor did they make any gestures,, these same two boys paint themselves up white!! paint themselves up red also at every football game this year for home and away games and they painted themselves up black one time and someone has a problem with it,,,my opinion is this,,the white people are the real minorities in this country now whether anyone wants to admit to it or not, a white person scream racial and nobody wants to listen, all im saying is i was present and nothing was done wrongly,
