I-70 reopened to traffic after deadly crash earlier today

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues investigating a fatal crash today on Interstate 70 eastbound near milepost 62 in Clark County.

I-70, whose eastbound lanes had been closed for several hours, reopened to traffic at 7 p.m.

The crash occurred when a westbound commercial truck, driven by Zygmunt Wieckowski, 59, of Chicago, lost control and crossed the median into eastbound traffic. The commercial vehicle clipped a vehicle driven by Robin McCann, 45, of Cuyahoga Falls. McCann was not injured in the crash.

The commercial vehicle continued on, striking an eastbound 17-passenger motor coach driven by Traci Williams, 42, of Springfield. The driver of the motor coach and three passengers, Kenny Fry, 61, Lonnie Acton, 28 and Alonso Ruffin, 37, all of Springfield, were pronounced dead on the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, according to a highway patrol report.

The six additional passengers in the motor coach and the driver of the commercial vehicle were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The names and conditions of the six passengers are not known at this time.

Currently, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the state patrol said.
