YOUNGSTOWN — Thirty-two Youngstown State University student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade-point average for the 2009 fall semester while 176 (52 percent) had at least a 3.0 GPA.
Of those 176 student-athletes who posted a 3.00-or-higher GPA in the fall, 164 have a cumulative GPA above that number.
Eleven of YSU’s 16 sponsored teams had a GPA above 3.00 while 14 had at least a cumulative 2.88 mark.
The women’s cross country squad topped the overall list with a 3.66. Nine of the 16 sponsored teams achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better.
The men’s group to earn the highest GPA was golf, earning a 3.23. YSU has 340 student-athletes. The football program had 38 student-athletes with a 3.00-or-better GPA.
Twelve achieved a cumulative GPA of 4.0 through the 2009 fall semester: Kaitlin Rohrs (basketball), Stephen Blose (football), Marc Kanetsky (football), Jodi Bowlen (soccer), Kara Cooper (soccer), Kelsey Kempton (soccer), Craig Goubeaux (baseball), Michael Turner (golf), Justine Cullen (golf), Victoria Rumph (softball), Liseli Baich (swimming) and Rachel Tano (swimming).
Also earning a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester were: Zack Rebillot (basketball), Vytas Sulskis (basketball), Rob Fernback (football), Tyler Figureoa (football), Erik Johnson (football), Brian Mellott (football), Kristina Rendle (softball), Lauren Blase (track and field/cross country), Lyndsie Hall (track and field), Kayla Witmer (track and field/cross country), Aaron Merrill (track and field), Allison Heinz (volleyball), Aaron Swenson (baseball), Cody Dearth (baseball), Spenser Sulzener (golf), Amanda Carpin (diving/track and field), Jennifer Johnstone (swimming), Alana Kane (swimming), Haley Kapferer (volleyball) and Kaitlin O’Hara (volleyball).
