Ohio Senate president has questions on rail plan

Published: Thu, February 18, 2010 @ 3:30 p.m.

COLUMBUS — The president of the Ohio Senate is questioning Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland on plans to provide passenger rail service between the state’s largest cities.

Senate President Bill Harris, a Republican from Ashland, sent a seven-page letter to Strickland earlier this week on the issue, voicing concern about the potential costs of the system that would connect Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati.

Why would anyone take a train between Cleveland and Columbus that will only average 40 mph? And even if you did take it, you will need a car or taxi on the other end. This rail project is a big wast of money because people will not use it. Spend the money on other infrastructure projects.
