Youngstown woman killed in car accident

PALMYRA — A 59-year-old Youngstown woman died when she lost control of her car and crashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer on a slippery road.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Janet Caspary of Youngstown was driving her car on state Route 225 in Palmyra Township, Portage County, at 8:05 a.m. Saturday when the accident occurred.

The patrol’s preliminary investigation states Caspary, driving northbound, lost control of her vehicle on the wet and partially snow-covered road and slid left of center, off the left side of the road and into a guardrail.

Her vehicle then came back on the road and into a tractor-trailer traveling northbound and driven by Reggi Harmon of Cortland, 47.

After being hit by the car, Harmon’s vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Harmon wasn’t injured in the crash. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

Both drivers were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.

No charges have been filed as the accident remains under investigation.

Caspary was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Portage County coroner’s office.

The patrol is requesting anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Ravenna Post at (330) 297-1441.
