Canfield man charged after cops find photos of nude 17-year-old

CANFIELD — A city man is charged after police found sexually explicit photos of the 17-year-old girl with whom he was in a relationship.

Christopher M. Breen, 37, of Skyline Drive, was arrested Monday by Canfield police and charged with 13 felony counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented matter and performance.

The girl’s mother discovered the relationship and notified authorities.

Breen will appear in Mahoning County Area Court Canfield 9 a.m. March 19 for a pre-trial hearing. His attorney Mark A. Hanni was not immediately available to comment Thursday.

Detective Brian McGivern said the mother found an e-mail between her daughter and Breen and contacted police to see what kind of action could be taken. The family lives in Columbiana County.

McGivern said the girl acknowledged during an interview that Breen had taken nude photos of her. She told police the relationship had been ongoing for about a year and was consensual.

“I think it was a case of this guy gave her attention, and she developed feelings for him,” McGivern said. “That led her to do things she wouldn’t normally do.”

Because age of consent in Ohio is 16, Breen cannot be charged for having a sexual relationship with the girl.

McGivern said Breen cooperated with the investigation and handed over the pictures, as well as three computers, a camera and a cellular phone, which were sent to the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

“Are these photos on the Internet? We don’t know that as of right now,” he said. “He said the photos were kept for his personal use and never put on the Internet, but BCI will determine that.”

The girl’s mother said her daughter had never been in trouble before, and she had no idea the girl was seeing anyone, McGivern said.

The detective said this is a perfect example of why parents should pay close attention to their children, especially when it comes to time on the Web. McGivern said the department has seen an increase in calls from parents concerned about their children sending and receiving inappropriate photos and text messages between one another.

“I want to warn these kids,” he said. “They take these pictures, and the next thing you know, the images are on the Internet. Once they’re on there, you can’t get them off.”

McGivern said no charges have been brought against any minor in Canfield for that reason, but it’s something the department, parents and kids should be aware of.

He said if BCI determines photos of the girl were distributed on the Internet or by cell phone, she could be in trouble as well.

“That would be determined by the prosecutor,” he said.

“I think now that this girl sees what transpired; she’s hurt,” McGivern said. “It’s really unfortunate.”

Well first of all, don't judge a book by its cover, who cares what he looks like, that should have nothing to do with it. They purposely make the photos look bad.
Second, ever think that maybe he actually had feelings for the girl. He never hurt her, abused her, or anything like that. he kept the photos to himself, didn't go putting them on the internet or showing friends or anything. There's a lot more "slimeballs" her own age that could have done a lot worse than take some photos. I'm a girl, I know these things first hand. If you knew the guy well you may not think he's such a slimeball or creep.
