Was Youngstown District Coaches Assn. co-player of the year on a team that advanced to the Div. I regional finals in Twinsburg before being shut out by Walsh Jesuit. The 17-year-old daughter of Kim and Joanie Smith scored 19 goals, including a career-high four-goal game against Ursuline. Audrey became the first Canfield player to achieve first-team All-Ohio status. She was also named to the NSCAA/Adidas all-region IV team comprising Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, W. Virginia and Michigan. Audrey played varsity since her freshman year, mostly as center-midfielder and forward before concentrating on the role of forward as a senior.
Smith’s play improved considerably since her junior year, after which the Cardinals returned all but three seniors from the 2008 season. “I worked really hard because I wanted to get better,” Smith said of her intention to surpass her six-goal output as a junior.
Credits the back line of Jessica Hughes, Katie Carlisle, Dayna Love, Meredith Gleichert and Brooke Mangiarelli for pushing the ball her way during offensive attacks. Was coached by Tim Wensel her first two high school seasons, followed by her junior and senior years under Phil Simone.
Played for many club and traveling teams, such as Phoenix and Olympic Development. Currently plays with the Tri-County Soccer Club and Casa. Expects to continue her soccer career at Kent State, where she’ll study fashion merchandising.
