Police: Schoolyard incident leads to shooting of South Side woman's home

A schoolyard incident may have led to multiple acts of gunplay on the city’s South Side, police said.

A 31-year-old woman told police she recently went to Cameron Avenue to speak with the mother of two teenage boys over the boys' alleged harassment of her daughter while in school.

According to police reports, the woman said she did not speak with police about the harassment, but the teen boys threatened her.

Reports say the boys told the woman they would shoot up her house, but the woman told police she did not take the threat seriously. The woman now believes the two teens tried to make good on that threat Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the woman’s South Side home was hit by gunfire just after 4 p.m. The woman was not home when the shooting took place, but a man at the house told officers he was in the kitchen when he heard gunfire and then noticed a rear window shattered and a slug on the floor.
