1 man dead in double shooting in Austintown tonight

Published: Sat, December 4, 2010 @ 11:45 p.m.

Staff report

AUSTINTOWN

Police are investigating a double shooting outside of Westchester Executive Apartments that killed one man in his 30s and injured a second man.

Police were called to the one-story apartments, off of Westchester Drive, around 7 tonight and found one man critically wounded with four gunshot wounds. The other man suffered at least one gunshot wound to the lower back.

That man, whose age was not available, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was still alive at this hour, said Bob Gavalier, Austintown police chief.

A witness saw a suspect running from the vehicle, Gavalier said.

The man killed lived at the apartment complex, Gavalier said, adding that the other man did not live there. Gavalier was not releasing the names of either victim.

Neighbors who asked a police officer near the entrance to the apartment complex what was happening were told that the situation was “being handled,” and they were in no danger, but the officer did not give the neighbors any information about what had happened.

It is the second homicide recorded in Austintown this year. The last was 23-month-old Makenzie McBride, who died April 6. Shawn Davis, 25, is charged with aggravated murder with a death-penalty specification in her death. He is the ex-boyfriend of Makenzie’s mother, Shannon McBride, 22, of Austintown.

yikes, right down the road from the schools, maybe all these apartments need to be bull dozed and something more put in there place! Just when you want to belive Austintown won't be like the "Youngstown", another turn off, thank you whom ever for ruining what ever "security" Austintown residents thought they could feel. I'm ready to move....

there are some sad/sorry people living in our world. what makes you think Austintown was any better to live in than Ytown. Boardman is no better either. The only difference between the three is Ytown is populated with a majority of African Americans and you White people have learned to brush your crime/drug deals/children beating each other with bats/etc. under the rug. Just because you don't hear about it does not mean it does not happen in Boardman or Austintown.

Oh here we go with the racist angle. Animals are animals no matter what color there skin is. Is that so hard to comprehend?

What really gets to me is the ignored comments people have the nerve to post. I bet if it was your family or friend they were talking about you wouldn't post that ignored thing being said. Have some respect for the family that is going through pain at this time. That is if you have any respect for someone that is not white.

"I bet if it was your family or friend they were talking about you wouldn't post that ignored thing being said."

If that was my family or friends, the LAST place I would worry about is what is said on a website. My main concern would be the welfare of my family or friends, finding the gutless killer and doing something about it, not sit at a keyboard and worry about what is posted in the media. Get real.

"That is if you have any respect for someone that is not white."

Why you making this a racist thing? There is no mention of what the color of the victim or killer is? The killer is a ANIMAL, pure and simple, white, black, yellow, orange, green, etc. It don't matter what color the useless KILLER is, what matters is catching him and getting the cockroach off the streets. Quit making it more then what it is or trying to play the race card.

"lifes2short why would u comment on what nane said and not jennee. "

Did jennee make it a white or black issue? Is it not true that "Youngstown" has more crime then the outskirts? And before you babble, I live in Campbell, across the street from Youngstown, but I feel safe in Campbell, and what goes on across the street and down the street from me (East side) is beyond words. Why make it something more then what it is. No matter where you go, crime is going to happen, even in Celebration, Florida. Theres no escaping it.

Sounds like an issue amongst friends being resolved and we shouldn't be critical .

Horrible,..

With first sending condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Where I'd hoped it didn't happen and thus with it being the irreversible reality that it has. The hope is one that the deceased and wounded were innocence and the soul of the deceased is of clean delivery in post mortal departure.

Where no matter what township this happened in, what race they are or what the conflict was about. That savagery unquestionably sounds like a definite hit. The details gives no mention in manner of attempted theft of neither money or the vehicle. Thus along with being savage they were extremely amateurish in how they did it.

Beyond any happenstance that erupted into such carnage. It's clear the shooter either followed or awaited the victims arrival in a premeditated manner and was determined to murder whom was targeted.

This area has finally plummeted to become such an intolerable and indefensible racial bigotry and organized crime influenced abyss. Where it's not fit for Man, Woman and certainly not fit for any child to habit the region.

You fit the proverbial " Pot meets Kettle " reference. See unless you've changed from who you've always been here.

You're historically been a culprit of contriving color coding and now you proclaim difference?

Having said that maybe you've suddenly changed your ways to become a more sensible and reasonably responsible individual,.. hence forth of course.
