NEWARK

Gov.-elect John Kasich defended the decision to withhold information about individuals applying for jobs in his administration, though he admitted he will have to release details once his transition to office is complete.

“All I’ve been trying to do is protect the job security of people who think they might want to come work in another job,” Kasich said Tuesday. “And I’m mystified at this. Frankly, I’m shocked. Maybe the people that demand all this openness ought to think about the way they want their kids treated. Do they want their kids to be jeopardized because they’re trying to improve themselves and look for another job?”

Kasich’s coming administration is accepting applications through its transition website — www.fixohionow.com — a separate entity that is receiving contributions to cover his inauguration and other costs associated with his move into the governor’s office.

Media groups and public records are arguing that r sum s submitted through the website should be open to scrutiny, as would be the case with applications submitted to a governmental office by someone seeking employment.

Gov. Ted Strickland released all such r sum s submitted during his transition into office four years ago.

But Kasich told reporters the transition setup allows his administration to “maintain privacy for the people” who are applying for jobs.

“When a person applies for another job, it doesn’t make their current employer happy,” he said. “I believe that when we pick somebody, they’re fair game. You can have an opportunity to look at anything you want to look at, you know, within reason. But when somebody applies for a job, you don’t want to put them in jeopardy.”

Kasich said hiring won’t be completed when he takes office in January, however. So applications and other information submitted by job seekers will have to be released after his inauguration.

“It’s clear to me that come Jan. 10, unless there’s some legal way in which I can do this, these documents will have to be made public,” he said.

Kasich urged reporters to be “responsible” in what they do with applications that are made public next year.

“Ultimately, I’m going to lose this battle,” Kasich said. “I tried to figure out a way to protect these folks, and it’s clear from Supreme Court rulings, at least at this point, I’m not going to win that.”

So if you currently have a job, and applied for one of these to better yourself, you would want your current employer notified publicly that you have applied and hope he/she finds it in their heart to keep you on if you don't get the job? Use some common sense people. You are only angry because it is Kasich. If this was Strickland, would you be so angered? You are going to find out all about anyone who applies in a little over a month, is this really such a big deal?

Why does the media have to know information like that ?? I could care less who applies. If they are hired you can tear them apart.

The nosey media causes more problems than they solve. I'm surprised that they don't publish the WIKILEAKS. The mecia does not care who it hurts and as I said the general public just doesn't need to know all of the minute details and doesn't reall y care.

GET A LIFE ?? .

...its already starting..... stand by for heavy rolls! Far be it for me to be the one to say " I told you so".... but I told you so. Ted was by far the more honorable of the two.

He is a scary demon from hell, Kasich is. Lies lies lies. Here is one of his first, right out there in the open, and even so, twits come to his defense because they don't understand what he's doing is plain and simple wrong in a public office. AtownParent asked if people would be complaining had it been Strickland. AtownParent, look at your question and think a little harder: Strickland DIDN'T DO IT, because he didn't need to HIDE any of his cronies as he put them in. Kasich has people he's sweeping in under the rug and after the doors are open you won't see them. They're people he obviously doesn't want us to see. Framing it as a protection to people coming from other jobs is just dumb. And dumb people accept lines like that. Kasich understands how stupid most people are that way.

Much ado about nothing. Personnel applications, interviews, and decisions should be handled confidentially. After the person is hired, you put out their CV.

What is the big deal, if any of kasich's pick are on the up and up, it will come out. Most of this whining is from the losers party. Don't go away mad, just go away.

Who needs transparency? This guys lies will all come out, it will just take more time. I'm not mad Ted lost, just disappointed. The R's did a better job of selling the message and getting out their base. The D's did not rally the base. History will show Strickland a better governor hands down. The thing is, elections are not all about what you did or didn't do, they are more about what people think you did or did not do. Kasick is gonna screw up cuz he is a screw up. Time will tell.

Haha, the guy isn't even in office and you far-left liberals are looking to attack him in any way possible. This is about as dumb as you can get in your attacks.

The guy will be a tremendous governor and will be vastly superior to Taxing Ted Strickland.

Proceed with your whining you SORE LOSERS!

Time will tell valleyred. But again, i am not sore or mad. I am concerned and will buy another gun to protect my family because Kasick is going to create more poor in our state. When people can not provide food and shelter for their family or themselves, they will do just about anything. I will not be surprised if he wants to shut down some shelters across Ohio. The right wing wackos will love this because they think the homeless are just lazy folks who want a free lunch.

Like you did when your people lost in various elections in the past few years, Valleyred and Hman? Go away? You didn't. And you didn't stop whining either. What makes you think liberals are any different from you? They want good things for their lives as well. They just happen to have a different idea of how to go about attaining those things and governing than you.

Actually, people within your own conservative party have different ideas, which is why half of the Republican Party squints and shakes their heads every time Palin or a Tea Party spokesperson is given media attention. Get real. You're living in a world where you think you all agree and that you don't have common interests with people of other parties. This is because you're simple-minded, and believe the lies politicians (at least those who wear the badge you identify with) tell you.

@ faith Rally the base wouldn't help. This administration poisoned the well for democrats in Ohio. It didn't help Ted graveling to this administration for help. It is time for someone else to hopefully lead Ohio forward, and not in a "progressive" way

Yes, let's go backwards until we're scratching images of bison and deer on the cave walls. Those were good times. Yes, they were.
