NH teen who zapped nipples during shop class sues

Published: Tue, August 31, 2010 @ 10:36 a.m.

DOVER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire high school student shocked so severely in shop class that his heart stopped beating is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover.

Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords in their electrical trades class.

On March 11, Dubois attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord.

Dubois was critically injured.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois’ suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage.

Kelley resigned from his teaching position about a month after the incident. He declined to comment on the lawsuit.

I do apologize to all parties involved, but this also seems like another highschool prank. He clipped this plug to his own nipple, another student clipped the other one, a third party plugged it in. Yes, it surely was a devastating thing that happened, but parents also teach their children the risks of electricity at a young age by saying "no, don't plug that in there" It is not the parent's fault at all, they were not there. But come on now, they were in highschool and had to understand that there was a risk involved. That is why we all don't run around with nipple clamps on saying "PLug it in, plug it in"

The student was attempting to do a little cleansing of the gene pool!!!

By the time you reach high school you should be able to think at least a little bit.

"...is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover."

Why is he suing all them? This case is a waste of everyone involved. Nothing but a stupid idiot that has no brains! Called "COMMON SENSE". Going to sue for stupidity!

This case should never make it to court...this kid is old enough to know better and deserves what he got for being so stupid. So now he wants to sue because he shocked himself after attaching clamps to his own nipples? What a moron...and a waste of taxpayers' money!

so what was the teacher supposed to say before they started "okay class we all know electricity is very dangerous so dont put the clamps on any part of your body not even your friends ,especially not on their nipples.'' these parents should feel very stupid for trying to sue the teacher not even just that but for having a teenage son who would do something like that. if anything the boys parents should also be sueing the boys who helped with the joke also.

The sad thing is that the school will probably lose. Yeah, the student was as dumb as a rock, but the teacher was even more stupid for allowing it to happen in the first place.

Did I miss the part where the article stated the teacher "allowed it to happen". I would hope that's not the case.
