Teen boys robbed after festival

Published: Sat, August 7, 2010 @ 6:28 p.m.

Two teenage boys told police they were robbed near St. Lucy Church on Tenney

Avenue after a church festival.

The robbery happened at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a police report says.

The boys, 15 and 16, told police they were standing on a sidewalk when six to seven males approached. One

demanded money. When they said they didn’t have any, he lifted his shirt to show a gun in his waistband, the report says.

The boys turned over $16, an MP3 player and two cell phones, the report says.

Vindy come on now, get your facts straight! The boys were both shot, one died at the scene and the other still alive. They were were not 15 and 16, the one who was taken away from this world was 19. Funny how the "two" boys told the police all of this.

I can't describe how depressing Campbell has become. It was always the sister city to Struthers growing up. The same kind of hard core old country blue collar mentality. After the mills closed in the 70s, Struthers fought on and has endured pretty well considering the economic tidal wave it faced. Campbell, on the other hand, just plainly gave up. It's a hellhole with no sense of pride or hope.

"Campbell, on the other hand, just plainly gave up. It's a hellhole with no sense of pride or hope."

I beg to differ on that comment. We have pride and hope for our city. It's not a hellhole and certain areas (just like everywhere else in the world, no one is exempt) are the problem. The citizens will not stand around let the riff raff take over the streets like in other areas of Youngstown.

you are correct Life.... EVERY city has its problems... you just dont hear about it. I am very proud to say I am from Campbell. The problems are centered around the festivals, the "riff raff" is from the surrounding areas. Makes me sick my boys still live in Campbell, it was safe when I was growing up, not so much any more. The boy that was murdered was a nice kid, and I want to say it was 2 separate incidents. I pray they find the losers that killed him and soon.

anyone committing a crime like this should receive a mandatory 10 year sentence without parole. the shooter should receive a mandatory death sentence. if the courts will not allow the police to do their job (gun control) in the city, then they should have to pay the victim's family. make them all feel the pain, from the perpetrators to the judges.

I remember going to St. Lucy's festival as a kid. Great festival - now I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near that festival or I might be dead. The Campbell gangstas are just totally out of control same as Y-town. So much for VGRIP helping the valley fight these crimes.

Campbell is no longer a sterile town but is now fertile for cultural growth . Gone are the days when the fear of the police inhibited the people from doing their thing . Yep, we are now in an era of new growth . People can now express themselves any way that they so choose . Laws now protect such expression from the wrath of their victims . This new era was incepted when a man in Campbell shot a car thief as he was stealing his car at home . The thief died and his family sued the shooter . The man had to forfeit his home to the family of his victim . Today with new expanded rights the subculture is going mainstream .

Dragon - I had plenty of relatives in Campbell all of whom have passed away or moved away. I still remember the red rain from the Sheet and Tube Mill. I know how the city use to be and what it is today - not fit to live in unless you can't afford better. Just like Y-town, when the mills shutdown in the late 70's and early 80's, the city's heart DIED!!!

"I know how the city use to be and what it is today - not fit to live in unless you can't afford better."

Beg to differ on that also. Drive around in Campbell. Go to Roosevelt Park in the morning and see the people jogging or going for a morning stroll, stop at the library, they have a wonderful staff there, drive through the neighbors and see how well maintained there yards are and children playing in there yards, not the streets. Go see the crowds at a little league game or high school baseball game. Go to the High School and catch a Friday night football game and see the pride for our team. Tour the elementary school or high school. Very nice buildings and well kept. Drive around on a Sunday and see the churches parking lots full. Campbell is not all that bad. Actually in time it'll be back to what it was before. Just have to keep the faith and don't let the animals take over and so far the Campbell Police are doing all they could and doing a good job.

the key word is "had" " not fit to live in unless you can't afford better. " YOU are sooo wrong, I guess you never drove through Pin Oaks and seen the homes that are back there, and the keep building more. They are over 100,000$. Lives2short I agree with you completely!!!
