Shooting suspect arrested

Staff report

Campbell police have a man in custody in a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex in the city last month.

Robert A. Seals Jr., 20, whose last known address was on East Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown, was arrested on a Campbell warrant at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday by the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force, said Campbell Detective Sgt. John Rusnak. He did not know where the arrest was made.

Seals is now in the Cambpell jail awaiting an arraignment Friday morning. He is charged with one count of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm into a habitat, Rusnak said.

The charges stem from a shooting at the Kendall Apartments on Kendall Avenue near Chapel Lane on July 17.

A police report says two people in an apartment there were in bed around 4:45 a.m. when they heard yelling, followed by four to five gunshots. A bullet cracked their bedroom window.

A car in the parking lot also was damaged. The windshield had a bullet hole in it, and a .40-caliber slug was recovered nearby. The call to police about the shooting originated at another apartment. Police interviewed the residents there. One said he heard arguing after a group of visitors left his apartment, then he heard shooting.

Rusnak said police believe the shooter tried to hit one of those visitors.

He said witnesses and “other evidence” led them to charge Seals.
