Poll: Obama, Dems popularity slides

Published: Wed, April 14, 2010 @ 6:06 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's national standing has slipped to a new low after his victory on the historic health-care overhaul, even in the face of growing signs of economic revival, according to the latest Associated Press-GfK poll.

The survey shows the political terrain growing rockier for Obama and congressional Democrats heading into midterm elections, boosting Republican hopes for a return to power this fall.

Just 49 percent of people now approve of the job Obama's doing overall, and less than that — 44 percent — like the way he's handled health care and the economy.

Last September, Obama hit a low of 50 percent in job approval before ticking a bit higher. His high-water mark as president was 67 percent in February of last year, just after he took office.

The news is worse for other Democrats. For the first time this year, about as many Americans approve of congressional Republicans as Democrats — 38 percent to 41 percent — and neither has an edge when it comes to the party voters want controlling Congress.

What is wrong with the health care issue is the fact that the problem was created decades ago. When organized labor insisted on full coverage for anything from a runny nose to a doctor's appointment for a possible broken fingernail. Back in the day, health care was "hospitalization". Everything taken care of IF you had to go to the hospital. Doctor office for the sniffles?? You were on your own. Now all of this has become cost prohibative for individuals, companies and certainly the Government. If the same rules applied today, it would be affordable and everyone could be covered and our tax dollars could pay for it..........

USA 1 reply to blue collar workers First if blue collar workers were not on all type of jobs people would not be driving cars, eating foods, using computers, children playing with toys, all kinds of supplies, earth moving equipment, motorcycles and the list would be at least 10 pages long for what jobs are filled by blue collar workers. What if you personally had no other option than to be a blue collar worker for 20 years to care for family and all of a sudden your job disappears? Would not be reading what you commented about blue collar workers. Posted by Jarad

How blind can America be? Divide and conquer has been the MO of our political fathers long before HW Bush declared the new world order and before Clinton signed away our manufacturing base with Nafta. If they keep us fighting amongst ourselves Joe Public is totally clueless as to what is really going on.
I have a few things everyone should ask themself.
1) If we are the only country in the world that has everything we need to exist why are we the only country being drug down to the rest of the world?
2) Was bringing down the iron curtain worth creating Osama Bin Laden?
3) If the middle eastern wars are not about oil then why are we not fighting in Africa?
4) If we are so concerned about terrorists why have we failed to secure our borders?
How blind can America Be?
