WARREN — Anthony Leshnack, a former sergeant in the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department, said a gambling problem led him to steal $33,000 from a charitable organization he and a fellow sheriff’s sergeant formed in 2004.
Leshnack was ordered Wednesday to repay the money and spend 90 days in the Geauga County Jail as part of his five-year probation for the thefts.
His co-defendant, Peter Pizzulo, who was lead detective in a high-profile 2005 murder case, was ordered to pay back the $8,500 he stole and spend 30 days in the Geauga County Jail.
Both men said they never intended to do anything illegal when they formed the Ohio Narcotics Officers Association.
An investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, however, showed that the men used the organization’s money to take trips to Las Vegas as early as 2004 and to pay for cell phones and other items for their personal use.

Yet, people who post here wonder why there is an anti law enforcement bias!
So this is why you root for the criminals ? Well these two are criminals support them ! They tarnished the profession with their actions but they are not what law enforcement stands for . Many work every day with no blemish on their careers .
It is quite obvious that Leshnak had a gambling problem and stole actual cash money. As far as Pizzulo, it doesn't appear there was intent to steal money but more of a question of what was and wasn't a legitimate expense at best which is open to interpretation. This would be a problem for any organization. According to the papers, a cell phone bill and a trip to Las Vegas for police activities. This should have more of a civil restitution case on Pizzulo's part instead of a criminal charge just like any other organization. It would be easy to show criminal intent with Leshnack by forging Pizzulo's name/signature on checks for cash, personal property, etc. and then opening another account that didn't require Pizzulo's name on it. These 2 cases should not have been put together as there were two very very distinctive differences between each others agenda. People also do not realize that BCI works for politicians with agendas and do not conduct independent investigations. The outcome is predetermined before the investigation begins and then completed accordingly.
sworn in to protect and serve
they were given authority to enforce the law that is a lot of power and responsibility
so they lied and stole money or use of ...decieved the public, and private
good law enforcement officials would lean toward heavy punishment for dirtying up the already suspect reputation of law enforcement and government in general let me steal 30,000 and get 90 days/ 5yr probation r u serious? for real
