This is unAmerican
EDITOR:
I read an article in The Vindicator that I can’t get out of my mind (16 fired or disciplined for death of Arizona inmate). It was about the unnecessary, horrible death of a 48-year-old woman suffered in the Phoenix, Ariz., prison. It state that she was put in an outdoor holding cell (a cage) for four hours in triple-digit heat. They call it a wait0-them-out practice.
There was no cover for shade, and I cannot imagine the agony this poor woman endured.
The policy was to only be left out for a two hour limit.
I could say much more, but my last comment is that the guard who walked her to that outdoor cell and cocked her in there and walked away — I’m sure he went into an air conditioned building.
This is something that I cannot begin to understand, how this could happen within a society of educated people. There is no place in society — in America — for this kind of thing.

Those who guarded this woman were out of touch with reality . They should have experienced what this woman went through . Waterboarding at GITMO is pale compared to what she went through .
Sandy,
I think "society of educated people" is a big misnomer. For instance, your letter alone seems to signify a 3rd grade writing level, however, I am sure you are much older.
Secondly, the vindicator has no issue printing a letter with numerous errors in grammar, and this falls in line with their precedent.
Here's a tip, if you want to express yourself like an adult, try and write a letter at a level that depicts a high school diploma, and I mean a real high school diploma, not YCS equivalent.
I personally feel there is no place in society for adults who cannot communicate above a 3rd grade level.
I agree, I was not condemneing a GED or high school diploma. Surely many people have achieved with them. I just don't find it necessary to publish a letter below those standards.
Today's writers are not as skilled as those in the past. I believe it has to do with a combination of factors, including lack of attention in school, the internet and text messaging. Have you ever read any of the comments in the Akron Beacon Journal or the Cleveland Plain Dealer?
DoctorBozo...."I personally feel there is no place in society for adults who cannot communicate above a 3rd grade level."
How do you propose we get rid of them?
Lou Reed...."Lets club em to death and get it over with."
When you write a letter lamenting what should go on in a "society of educated people" you should at least show that you have gotten a whiff of that level of education, otherwise you invalidate your own opinion. To the Doc's point, why publish an opinion that isn't valid?
I am a perfect example of the first amendment you want to defend. By insulting my opinion and writing, are you not a hypocrite in your own right?
Sandy,
Thank you for writing your letter. It makes an excellent point while giving us something to think about. Awhile back Senator Jim Webb wrote an article that was published in "The Parade Magazine. In the article Sen. Webb discussed the United States prison system and in certain instances the need for reform.

FYI DoctorGonzo - "your grammar ain't so hot, " so if I were you I wouldn't throw stones. We're not all perfect, just people with thoughts and opinions.
DoctorGonzo,
I just saw your last post where you are lamenting that people are being hypocritical with you. I'm sure that you know the difference between free speech and being a gentleman or lady and being polite. I certainly hope that you don't talk to other people that rudely in person. I assume that you are only rude when you're anonymous on these boards. Somewhere along the line someone had to have taught you some common courtesy.
In addition, if an adult cannot communicate at a 3rd grade level and they are perfectly fine ie. no mental issues or other disabilities, I propose we develop ways to turn them into fuel to combat the US dependence on foreign oil.
Me likey, me likey a ton. Me opine and ruffle fethers. Me swine like you.
B&C only went after the bad guys who wanted to destroy America . These liberal minded guards wouldn't know the difference between petty civilian crimes and terrorists .
I can only thank you for adding yet another moniker to my list. Cyber Bully. Are you serious? Am I that offensive, or are you that vulnerable that you actually feel "bullied" by the words of someone you do not even know. Do more push ups. You are weakening the nation.
I can assure you I hide behind nothing. All I did was question the vindicator's publishing standards, question the author's writing skills and propose a very logical idea to solve our energy problems.
Here is free advice, when you see my name next to a post, skip it. You don't have to read it. If you don't like my opinion, good for you. If you are upset with me, realize that you are really upset with your own life as it stands and there is no way out. I'll still be here tomorrow.
Names hurt piggy.
Gonzo I would have to agree with your questioning of the vindicator's publishing standards. I would like to add that it can be seen in most of their articles, not just in this letter to the editor.
Perhaps they keep low writing standards not because of poor skills by people writing but the people reading. This area does have quite a brain drain.
Yes clark, I failed 4th grade, twice. I have to sit down to talk, and I am most cetainly a liberal democrat.
You are obviously an expert on the constitution, please tell me more, and keep calling me names.
Also, please tell me what I should and should not comment on. I need spelling guidance and a life coach.
Perhaps we can schedule a time when I can just sit and listen, to you of course.
Well said Clarkkent! Superman to the rescue! :-)
