YOUNGSTOWN — Ex-U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. arrived at the WKBN AM Radio studios about 9:40 a.m. today. He was driven to the facility by Linda Kovachik, a longtime friend and former Traficant congressional staffer.
Traficant is to host his first local radio show in seven years beginning at 10 a.m. today. The congressman was released from a federal prison Sept. 2 after serving seven years and one month for racketeering, bribery, obstruction of justice and tax evasion.
Bill Kelly, the head of Clear Channel Radio, Youngstown, refused to let a Vindicator reporter and photographer inside the station on South Avenue.
Kelly said that WKBN-TV Channel 27, the, local CBS affiliate, is the only media outlet allowed to watch Traficant host the two-hour show.

We have to wait until Saturday to find out why the Vindy got barred? Burying the news again?
I wouldn't let the Vindicator in either. They're so one-sided against the police who knows where they stand and what they'll say regarding Traficant. Try being impartial and you might earn a little more respect.
The Vindicator should be proud that they are not at this media event. Kelly and Rivers have proved they care nothing about this community and are nothing but W----S for the media dollars,
All around the country they will carry the story about Traficant and being on the air again, We will be the laughing stock of the country having a convicted FELON as a broadcast host.
Fixed, daysleeper.
Most callers to the newsroom who I've spoken with, by the way, are NOT complaining that we are burying Traficant. These callers say we are giving him too much space. Thoughts?

Managing Editor
You are giving him way too much space. Youngstown has moved on and most readers don't care about Traficant any more. The more you print, the more credibility you give him at the exact moment that he can do the most damage to Youngstown and it's attempt to change for the better.
Mr. Sweetwood,
As a journalist, you have a duty to report the news. Traficant is news, big news. But try reporting Traficant-related news impartially and insightfully for a change. Instead of printing all the hate-inspired nonsense from de Souza, why not try for a Pultizer Prize and conduct some real investigative journalism into the framing of Jim Traficant? In other words, try printing the truth. Why not a word about Nkolo? Demjanjuk? AIPAC? There's a big story there, one which can and will put Youngstown on the map for all the right reasons.
OK folks. He's home and apparently has a fill-in (perhaps eventually permanent) job. That's all anyone can ask of anyone who is re-entering society from prison. I think we can all stop talking about him now. Thinking, informed, educated voters would not vote for Mr. Traficant for any public position. I guarantee it. We have indeed moved on - let's ALL move on.
Bertram, it is time for you to start paying attention to the goings on at YSU again. Since you have no chance of influencing or affecting the idiots who support Traficant, you have a far better chance of influencing public good by exposing the pecadillos at YSU. Just my opinion.
Jim just got out of prison and is still news . The Vindy covers the news . Give it some time and others things in the news will crowd Jim back into the archives .
Traficant was masterful. He is a born radio host. He has total command of local issues and can talk about them well. All this will stand him well if he elects to run for Congress.
