Professors group criticizes handling of Antioch closing

Published: Tue, September 1, 2009 @ 3:50 p.m.

YELLOW SPRINGS (AP) — The American Association of University Professors says administrators failed to share financial information with the faculty of Antioch College before announcing its temporary closing and undermined the Ohio school by shifting administrative functions away.

Antioch University, which oversees the college, on today called the association’s report flawed.

University Chancellor Toni Murdock says the faculty was made aware of budget cuts before the college’s closing and that the consolidation of administrative functions was designed to save the college by cutting costs.

The university temporarily closed the Yellow Springs college last year because of financial problems. In June, the university agreed to transfer the campus to an alumni group that plans to turn it into an independent school.

I hope they will reopen Antioch some day. It's given more to Ohio than it has ever taken from Ohio.
