Youngstown police bring rape suspect back from Indiana

YOUNGSTOWN — City police traveled to Greencastle, Ind., this week to pick up a man accused of a 2003 rape.

Sammie Smith Jr., 41, of Auburn, Ind., is charged with three counts of rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. He is accused in the October 2003 rape of a woman on Hilton Avenue.

Smith, who was picked at the Putnamville Correctional Facility in Greencastle, Ind., was extradited to the city on warrants charging him with the crimes.
