Son says woman in motel shooting really a bad shot

Published: Fri, October 23, 2009 @ 9:28 a.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — Her son says he was surprised when a 70-year-old woman shot and killed a man police say was attempting to rob the family in their Ohio motel room.

The man tells Columbus media outlets his mother normally has terrible aim.

Police have not filed charges against the woman, and the family, from Ironton in southern Ohio, has declined to be identified.

They came to Columbus for a major horse show and were in the motel room Wednesday night when police say a man with a gun barged in through the door, which was open slightly.

The son says his mother found herself closer to her purse when they were all ordered down on the floor, and she pulled out her own handgun and fired.

Police say 25-year-old Wayne Winston died after staggering to the parking lot.

Just a mother protecting her family ! Good for her. Should give her a medal. The guy isnt around now to try and sue her but I am sure his family will try because he is "a good boy" and didnt mean any harm.

All of the previous shots were just practice...she was waiting for the right time to actually hit something!

1) Get a Concealed Weapons Permit!
2) Buy a gun you fell comfortable with!
3) Learn how to use it!
4) Learn how to maintain it!
5) Keep it safe from children
6) Take the time to stay proficient with it!

Remember, "He takes care of he who takes care of himself" This saying is applicable in so many ways.

"The Columbus Dispatch reports that the woman had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and that gun belonged to her late husband.

Police say no charges have been filed against the woman, but they expect the case will be presented to a grand jury."

They are looking for something to charge her with .

Stan, I will be willing to bet that the NRA will defend her. As a member of the NRA I will donate to her defense.

Her son said she was a poor shot, when it is "up close and personal you do not have to be the best shot in the world, just willing to do what is necessary"

The robber was from St. Louis Missouri and I'll bet that he made a living pulling robberies .

Let's hope that the Grand Jury in Columbus declines to charge the grandmother with anything .
