Ohio mom has marquee sign showing anger at school

Published: Tue, October 20, 2009 @ 12:50 p.m.

BERLIN HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio mother who says her son got a raw deal from his middle school’s football program has put her feelings on a marquee-style sign in her yard.

Amy Ortner’s bright yellow sign in Berlin Heights in northern Ohio has letters about 6 inches tall and the message, “Berlin football — Shame shame — We don’t play those kind of games!”

Ortner says after her son, Keegan, trained with the team for weeks and paid $70 for a physical and cleats, she was told the student handbook said his grades weren’t good enough to play. Ortner says the school won’t pay back the $70.

A school board member and a local business owner have offered her the money to take down the sign, but Ortner claims they’re more interested in appearances than in justice for her son.

1.) Did you read the handbook prior to paying the $70.00. Basically, were you aware that your son's grades were not satisfactory enough to play for the team?
2.) If so, did you pay for the football expenses anyways?
3) WHY wasn't your son's grades satisfactory enought to play football?
4.) WHY aren't you more upset at your son for not giving his best to his education instead of best to his extra curricular activities?
This is just another sad case of baby's mama whose son can do no wrong. He'll never grow up to take ownership for anything because he's been taught that it's everyone else's problem, not his. How sad...

I agree ismile, some parents are first to place blame (their children are the same way); rather than looking in the mirror and seeing who the real problem is. He probably would have been that player on the team too that whined and cried that he didn't get enough playing time... meanwhile he stinks.

Beam Me Up !!

Her sign should read, " Stop by and ask me how to be a loser".

Why can't people with an IQ below 110 apply for a license to breed? The town people crowned Quasimodo the King of Fools - What do we have for this Amy Ortner of Berlin Heights, Ohio?

My, my, my... and Halloween pranks are just weeks away. I wonder what she'll be complaining about the morning of November 1st?

no pass no play what she should be really upset about is her son not being able to get a average grade so he can play ball, sports is a privledge and not a right. I agree with the school 110% get over it lady or can't you read the rules before you pay the fee?

The passing GPA to play sports is like a 2.0... I think they need to re-focus their attention, but then again, she'll probably picket the school saying the teachers failed her son. "Berlin teachers SHAME SHAME oh yes English, Math and History are to Blame".

Maybe if you took all the effort you are putting into making yourself look like a fool and spend it helping your son improve his grades....SHAME SHAME ON YOU...NOT SOMETHING A GOOD MOMMY WOULD DO!

To the school board member and local business owner wanting to pay her the $ to take her sign down...please don't. It'll make it easier to spot the house where the moron mom lives.
